This is hard to explain... but:

My laptop is a mac running MAME and my cabinet is XP.

They both have the same ROMS installed but on the cabinet I can't see Golden Tee Supreme Edition Tournement version 5.10

as an option even thought the gt2k.zip ROM is present.

Thoughts?

What am I missing?

First does the game work in mame alone? If so then add the rom to the DO NOT FILTER LIST in the advanced configuration. By default gameex has filters that do not show bootleg,clone,japan..etc.. games---Then Upadte your game list :)

Since it works in MACMAME I doubt your running a frontend... I am also assuming since your using the same romset your suing the same mame build number.

Let us know what you come up with

Thanks

Your suggestions fixed that part of the issue. But it plays so much better on the Mac OSX version.

The PC sound is choppy and distorted. Is there a flag I can add for that? I already have triplebuffer in the command line.

Try adding the switch -video ddraw

Posted

I had -video d3d and also tried -video ddraw... still choppy.

I read that MAME OSX uses a lockless sound driver... is there anything like that for XP?

BTW... I just tried 118 instead of 118_i686 with no change.

lcd

Two other things... At this point Im leaning on a SYNC issue I would playaround with vsync.. (also try removing tripplebuffer)

Alot of mame throttles sound to the refresh rate of the montior so it appers in sync this doent work well especially if your cab uses a TV or LCD because alot of time they run at a lower HZ (refresh rate) You can also try adjusting your monitors refresh rate...

A new mame U build addresses this you can try the mame 118 U3 and try out the new command line options or try the latter.. Good luck!

This is take from the mame 118 u2 whats new text file

Added new experimental control for overall emulation speed. This

lets you specify how fast/slow the gameplay should happen relative to

the original. -speed 1.0 means run at normal speed. -speed 2.0 means

run at 2x speed. -speed 0.5 means run at half speed. Note that the

sound pitch is shifted as a result. If you are running early Namco

games that normally run at 60.60Hz, you can run them at -speed 0.99

and it should run at under 60Hz, which should prevent sound stuttering

if your monitor is not capable of greater than 60Hz refresh rates.

If this turns out to be useful, future versions may support a

-speed refresh parameter that automatically tweaks the speed to keep

you under your monitor's refresh rate. [Aaron Giles]

Removing triplebuffer fixed the issue. Thanks

But what are the side effects? Will this affect other games adversely?

As I understand, triple buffer creates 3 sets of images for the game. the first is the currently displayed image, the second is the image being drawn next and the third is the image being written to. So basically, if things go right, you should have a 3 frame buffer to prevent video tearing and other similar issues. It's supposed to be a good thing, but there have been a few threads relating to related problems recently. I think it's one of the video driver things that's getting worked on in MAME right now.
