Can GameEx Support Multiple Emulators/ROM's?

Hi All,

I am new to the world of MAME and would like to start a cabinet MAME project soon. GameEx is the nicest and most feature rich front end loader that I have seen. But my newbie question is a general one...

Ideally I would like to have a variety of games available using multiple different emulators (NES, SNES, Genesis, Atari, etc). Each ROM for these different emulators usually have different attributes; 7-ZIP format for MAME/MAME32, EMC extension for ZNES, etc.

Do I need to download emulators for every type of ROM, or will GameEx support it natively? Can GameEx support multiple different types of emulators and associate the emulator automatically with each ROM?

Hope my question makes sense. Appreciate the help. Thanks

Yes Yes and Yes....

Gameex does NOT emulate anything... You user your own emus and your own roms. All you do is configure gameex to use them.

Example setting up emulator 1. NES

You point the the emus folder where it is installed (c:\emus\nes

You specify the emu exe (Nestopia) along with any arguments the most common is "[Rompath]\[Romfile]" additionally you can say -fullscreen or whatever the emu supports.

You specify the rom path (c:\roms\nes\)

You specify the rom file externsion (*.zip)

Gameex will build the rom list based on the rompath and romfilter... Meaning that its only going to list files with the *.zip extension in the c:\roms\nes folder

When a game is selected it builds the command based on your settings.. Say you choose Supermariobros

So it will run this

cmd /c c:\emus\nes\nestopia.exe "c:\roms\nes\supermariobros.zip"

There are a ton more setting but Id suggest you just check it out.. If you have problems there a alot of board members willing to help. And a setup wizard that will do alot of it for you.

You canb setup 255 emus just like this..

Happy gaming

WOW - Thanks for the quick response Brian. I will try it out tonight.

I must admit, the setup wizard is a little overwhelming at first because there is so many options, but I am sure I will get the hang of it.

In the gameex tree in the startmenu use the advanced configuration... It isnt quite as overwhelming.. Its all broken down into groups...

Welcome aboard wauger!

You might want to check out this topic: User Submitted Configs and Databases. Some of the configs are a liitle out dated, but it should give you a good visual reference.

If you have a particular emulator you need to set up, just do a search in the forum, there may be a topic already, if not just post a request, I'm sure someone might be able to give a you an example.

Also, not sure if you've registered yet, I think 7-zip support is setup for registered users only.

Good luck!
