- GameEx 4.62 - Optimized

  • Various speed optimizations
    in the main loop.
  • Fixes issue with HideOS.exe
hogging the CPU. Meant GameEx could be very slow
when full screen on old systems.
  • GameEx runs a bit less code
    each frame now.
  • More stable usage of Direct
Draw. Should fix issues for some people with
    exceptions.
  • If GameEx fails a stack trace
is now put in the log. This information will be
    useful to me.
  • If anyone wants to help the
project I am after a PC unit for testing GameEx
on. I need something with these Specs

    • 1 to1.4 GHZ (Must be
      within that speed)
    • 256MB RAM
    • AGP slot
    • LAN

    [*]I don't need a hard disk
drive or video card. Although if you have
something around GeForce 2 spec or Radeon
equivalent or better that would be useful too
    (save me buying one).
    [*]If your throwing something
like that out, or have something like that
gathering dust - please get in touch. Ill pay
    postage (UK or near preferred)
    [*]Ability to Standby system.

thanks Tom that sounds really good..

i have a machine like that but sorry it's not spare :/ is that the target spec btw?

you got standby in.. after i spent 3 hours improvising my own :P thanks i'll try it, will report back in a bit, bet you can't wait ;)

(thread title version wrong btw)

(edited out: my mistake about the menus sorry)

um, maybe the speed optimisations are a bit too much?!

- got a crash when exiting DVD player (my ZoomPlayer setup):

forum won't let me post the whole strangely log but i think relevant lines:

19:36:34.5 18/07/2005: 20 Consecutive Exceptions Occured: Exiting

19:36:34.5 18/07/2005: at Microsoft.DirectX.DirectDraw.Surface.DrawInternal(tagRECT* destRectangle, Surface sourceSurface, tagRECT* srcRectangle, DrawFlags flags, DrawEffects& bltEffects)

19:36:34.5 18/07/2005: at Microsoft.DirectX.DirectDraw.Surface.Draw(Rectangle destRectangle, Surface sourceSurface, Rectangle srcRectangle, DrawFlags flags)

19:36:34.5 18/07/2005: at GameEx.GameEx.mainform.displaygamelist(Int32 starttop, Int32 current)

19:36:34.5 18/07/2005: at GameEx.GameEx.mainform.DisplayFrame()

happened first time after upgrading to 4.62. not seen this before. not seen after 3 more tries.

and with Project64,

you restart GameEX before PJ64 has closed (i think in between the exit fullscreen and initialise windowed), so the re-init of PJ64 window fails and produces an error, and then GameEX restores and closes PJ64..

useable but not too neat - perhaps a delay needed when MapKeys=true?

edit: sorry WaitBeforeKeys (=1000) seems to fix that, i didn't realize it applied to MapKeys aswell? not sure, will try more later, i'll leave this info as possibly useful for someone else.

also sometimes i see the pj64 window (either the game running or the init failed error msg) for a second and sometimes its just black before restoring gameex. which is weird, but probably our fault :P

thanks again Tom. the speedups in a week or so are quite remarkable.

A Shame the postage is so much to the UK... I have a AMD Athlon 1ghz that does 1.33, a mATX systemboard, a Radeon 9100, and a old WinTV stereo card (bt878) sitting in my garage right now :(
