noob questions

Hi everybody

Congratulation for GameEx, it's an interesting piece of software

Sorry if those questions seems obvious but I've just started with gameex

- My roms are organized into sub folders (one for every letters of the alphabet).

When I specify the root folder for them, GameEx doesn't look into the subfolders. Is there a way to force a recursion there ?

- For multi-parts CD games, I have the CD images grouped into a single folders. Is there a way to display them as a single game if recursion is possible ?

- For multimedia features (I'm using this on a HTPC plugged to a 1080p TV) is it possible to automatically use an external application to play video/dvds ?

I'm a registered user of Zoomplayer and I want to continue using it

- Upgrade/Backup procedure: When uninstalling GameEx, what folders/registry should I keep ?

If I install a newer version of GameEx, will it automatically convert the config files to a new format if necessary ?

First off Wilcome to the Board!

1. Roms in Folders options do not work...Sorry.. (just put all your roms for each emu in one folder) example c:\snes\roms\

Gameex will alphabatize them...

2.For multi cd based games the same rule applies. Exaple c:\psx\ISO\ in this folder you will have all your PSX iso's including your multipart Final Fantasy Games

This way when you choose to load disk 2 you can tell its disc2...If you want a game to be displayed by anything other than its file name you need to create a map file.. example FF7DISC1.ISO | Final Fantasy CD 1 This will give a more CLEAN look.

3. Is ZOOMPLAYER commadline compatable...Meaning can you say Command line C:\zommplayerpath\zoomplayer.exe c:\myvidpath\MYVID.AVI... If so you can set it up as an emulator.

4. During the upgade process gameex will do everything for you. You donot need to manually backup your registry. The only thing you will really need to keep is your gameex reg key(It will not get overwritten of course) Buts its always nice to have in case of anything bad happening to your hardddisk. Periodically I cake a copy of my gameex installation foder (This is where all the magic happens) If you ever install to a new pc you can overwrite the new install folder with the one you backed up and have all your configs back..Just make sure you chages any paths if nessary. Then install your reg key. Voila

Gameex is very customizable.. As we all enjoy it here Iam sure you will too.

1. I keep them in separate folders because I want to avoid long seek time using Explorer or other programs when I want to check the folder content.

Having 4K files in the same folder isn't the fastest solution and don't really plan putting everything back in a single folder.

2. Thanks for the map file. It's a nice way to provide a more readable title.

3. Yes it can do command line, but if I use it as an emulator, then again I hit the same 'non recursive folder' issue. I also keep my videos in different subfolders and entering them one by one in GameEx isn't the best solution

So I guess the only showstopper for me is the lack of recursivity in the folder parsing. I hope it will be added at some point in the future.
