Well, I've been playing with the mdb files and it seems the GoodName column is the one being used to link to the rom name. But there is a problem because some of the roms don't link to the database even if the names match (GoodName matches rom file name). Also, an official GoodName for lets say "3 Ninjas Kick Back" would be "3 Ninjas Kick Back (U)" That is the only existing rom for that game. Shouldn't the GoodName include the (U) in the database? I noticed all GoodNames in the database don't include the extras like (U) which are part of the GoodName itself. I decided to manually change the GoodNames in the database and add the (U). But now none of my roms have descriptions even though their names match all GoodNames in the database perfectly. But if I remove the (U) from the GoodNames in the database the descriptions are seen again. I can't figure this out. I've searched this entire forum multiple times. I noticed others have mentioned this problem before, but I feel it needs to be addressed again. It must have something to do with the way GameEx is reading the GoodNames. Could be a glitch or something. I keep thinking it might be some setting somewhere but I can't find anything that would matter. You should be able to change the GoodNames to anything you want as long as the rom name matches. Any ideas?

Okay, I've been running more tests and it seems parentheses and anything in parentheses doesn't get read in the GoodName field of the database. At least, it doesn't get read properly that is. Therefore, if you include the (U) or something like that in the GoodName field of the database, your rom name won't link even if the names truly do match.
