Tom,

Say I'm on google and I click on Gameex homepage whether it be the one with your name in it or the gameex.net. All I get at first is that MAME video, the blue one that has words circling around it. I try scrolling up an down, pressing stop on the video, but to no prevail. Sometimes I have to hit refresh a couple times and even then it takes the site some time to load. I think the video is making the site run sluggish. It could be something else but I have a pretty fast dsl line.

Yeah it's the Google ads I believe. It seems to wait for them to load before it shows the page. I get the same thing and often have to refresh a few times to get the page.

Yep same here. it says 2 items remaining google syndication something or other. I thought it was just me. Firefox does not seem to have this problem however.

I also mention to tom in a chat session... It works ok in firefox tho. It only seems to affect IE

Yeah, I am aware of the problem, it seems to be some kind of IE bug, it does seem better now than when the site first went up though.

Im completely stumped on how to fix it (I have tried lots of things). Hopefully there'll be a patch out for either IE or the portal software soon.

How much would it cost to get rid of the google ads on the page permanently?

I want to keep the Ads.

I understand that they are your sponsors, is there any other way google allows you to make it IE friendly. Like, a different way to display them?

I believe google ads make up a 3rd of toms hosting costs. I dont see him removing them anytime soon.. On a side at least Toms ads aren't full of spyware/tracking cookies like 1emulation site is.

This is really an IE issue because IE waits and waits and waits for the ads to load before moving on and doesn't refresh properly. Where as firefox will just go on and load the other content.

It is bothersome but I do understand. However we do have a few options as end users/

1)Get firefox 2)Block ads by using a 3rd party software 3)edit your hosts file to your loop back address for all sites begining with ADS.googlesynmdication or whatever it is.

I'am am sure if it was a simple fix Tom would have done it. I believe his hands are tied due to the way IE functions. Lastly Iam sure these ads are a last resort for any web site admin... This stuff is expensive.

I'm just saying, that as a community that I care about, maybe some of us could pitch in and cover that cost. If we knew how much the ads bring in, I know that I would be willing to make monthly or yearly, however it works with google, donations.

Agreed. There are quite a few people here that contribute alot to the community.

By all means please donate.. Every bit helps even if it doesn't remove the ads it is still worth it..

Besides lets say for example the ADS bring in 200 bucks a month. Is there going to be a counter saying that "only 120 more to go or else the banners come back up" Seems a little cheesy. Without relying totally on donations this is the only way Tom can secure a source of income.

Personally Ive donated twice. Some more.. Others less.. But I love this board and the peeps here are top notch.

I really want to do all I can.

I see your point. I just hate firefox. It feels cheesy and I don't want to switch to it just to get to a site. Btw, what's up with these you can only view this site with firefox prompts that come up on other websites.

Call me a noob, but isn't there a way to prioritize the layers and tables? Loading your Ad Syndication in the background using CSS? Not sure if you're even using a style sheet for the portal, but if you are I found some reinforcement on my present solution.

Try loading all 3rd party elements, such as adsense, after everything of your own, and positioning them w/ CSS. This will pretty much eliminate your problems.... If adsense shows up slow (and it usually does!), it won't slow down your page in the process.

PS: The linear background design has pixel shading issues on my monitor... just me?

Not sure what you mean by "pixel shading issues" but I don't like horizontal backgrounds much, they look terrible when you scroll the page, and can have a flickering effect on some monitors. If I had to use a background like that I'd make it non-scrollable (<body background="backdrop.jpg" bgproperties="fixed">).

As for the ads, I believe Tom tried putting them in IFrame's which should load them separately to the page. You know it could be a setting on the server or something but I don't see how CSS could work better than an IFrame. Still anything is worth a try at this point.

Maybe it's the I'm loading the mame video and the gametap video at the same time.
