Audio skipping while playing games in Vista Media Center

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I have downloaded and installed the latest version of GameEx and downloaded the Mame32 Emulator. When I launch GameEx in Windows Vista Media Center and play any game, the audio skips or plays and repeats each sound consecutively. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the application a few times with the same results. This is VERY frustrating, certainly when I cant enjoy the sounds of the arcade games while playing them.

If anyone can help me with this crazy issue, I would HIGHLY appreciate it!! :)

Thanks,

Kannona :)

If you could find out whether this skipping happens outside GameEX (just running thru mame32 say) someone may be able to help you better. I'm sure it's one of the first questions you'll be asked. Do you have the triplebuffer option enabled in mame32 or in the gameex command line for mame ?

I tried it out of media center with MAME32 and the same thing...sound is skipping and repeating...I tried it with triple buffering and without and the same results.

This could be due to your default display settings for all games in Mame 32. Try messing arround between Direct Draw and Direct 3D.

I could notice it in games such as Area 51 if the display setting wasn't right.

OK, I was wrong. The skipping of audio stopped outside of Vista Media Center while playing games in MAME32, but when I launched GameEx in VMC, the audio still skips. I checked the configuration in MAME32 outside of VMC and it still says DirectDraw, but the configuration for GameEx within VMC doesn't have an option for me to change it to DirectDraw in that interface.

Does anyone else know what I can do to alleviate the audio skipping problem while playing GameEx in Vista Media Center?

Yeah, I've noticed that too sometimes in games such as Area 51 and Die Hard Trilogy. If we're talking about 3-D games, it's possible that the audio is still a work in progress. Check out different games 2D and 3D and tell me what happens.

The audio skips in both 2D and 3D games while playing the games in GameEx in Vista Media Center.

In Default Game Options go to Advanced and turn off wait for vsync.

In Default Game Options go to Advanced and turn off wait for vsync.

Since gameex uses mame commandline to launch

In the advanced MAME SETTINGS game options (gameex) try addting these.

DirectDraw-specific options

---------------------------

-video d3d (USES DIRECT3d)

-[no]hwstretch / -[no]hws

When enabled, MAME uses the hardware stretching abilities of your

video card to scale the game image and associated artwork to the

target resolution. Depending on the quality of your graphic card and

its drivers, this may be a fractional, antialiased scaling (nice) or

an integer, blocky scaling (not so nice), in which case you might want

to disable this option. In addition, if you have configured specific

arcade-like video modes for MAME and don't want MAME to perform any

non-integral scaling of the image, you should also disable this option.

The default is ON (-hwstretch).

Full screen options

-------------------

-[no]triplebuffer / -[no]tb

Enables or disables "triple buffering". Normally, MAME just draws

directly to the screen, without any fancy buffering. But with this

option enabled, MAME creates three buffers to draw to, and cycles

between them in order. It attempts to keep things flowing such that one

buffer is currently displayed, the second buffer is waiting to be

displayed, and the third buffer is being drawn to. -triplebuffer will

override -waitvsync, if the buffer is sucessfully created. This option

does not work with -video gdi. The default is OFF (-notriplebuffer).

THIS SHOULD HELP)

I added both statements into MAME32 and then unchecked wait for vsync as well, launched GameEx in VMC and tried to play 2D and 3D games....and Viola!!! They all work now!!

Thank you very much for the support Kenclops and Brian Hoffman!! I really appreciate it!!

Take care,

Kannona
