i decided to say screw my lightgun, it's nothing but trouble. (even though i had it working before the format). now my Fing trackball isn't being recognized in mame. it works in windows, and gameex, but when i try golden tee, it's not registering. in mame config i have trackball set to mouse, and mouse enabled. when i hit tab in golden tee and go to default player 1 controls, when i try to set my track device moving the trackball doesn't set it. so i have to hit esc and be left with NONE. usually when you hit enter on track x for example, i'd move the trackball and it would lock in as mouse 1 x or something like that, but it isn't reading the trackball to program it. SHIT.

Well in MAME there are General game controls config and THIS GAME config. Try that.. You can also goto to the MAME\CFG\ directory and delete the INI for golden TEE and force it to create a new one.... Just back it up first... Good luck

nope, not working. when i try and change the track input, i hit enter, and try moving the trackball but it's not seeing it for some stupid ass reason. this really makes me mad for it was working yesterday.

ok, i finally got it to read. i ended up changing the input device for trackball to = trackball instead of mouse. only now i'm not sure what directions x, y, x inc, x dec, y inc, y dec are. i program x and y and am able to swing the club. i try the rest and it swings going sideways now, i fixed that so now sideways does the club change, but up and down don't swing. i'm almost there.

any way to recover the default trackball input? i can't seem to set it up so left and ight up and down all work at the same time.

"x inc/dec" and "y inc/dec" are for emulating the motion of spinners/trackballs/steering wheels/etc. with another digital control. Basically, if you set x inc to x and x dec to z for a spinner, pressing z will move the paddle to the left and x to the right. In the end, if you have the analog control, you don't need to set it to anything. For my steering wheels, I just set the axis and set the inc/dec to "NONE".

ya i've tried setting them to none, and just setting the x and y and leaving the inc/dec at none. but in golden tee (sorry for the same example) if you bring the club back by spinning the trackball back, and they you hit it forward on an angle you can slice/hook. mine is going straight as an arrow. do you think if i get rid of mame and all the config folders then re-download and install it will be back to default? i tried re-installing it but didn't take the cfg folder out so it probably just loaded my f'd up configs again no?

If you want the controls to go back to default, all you have to do is delete the cfg file for that game. If you have changed the default MAME configs (what is loaded by default for every game), then you will need to delete default.cfg (I think that's the right file name...if not, look through the directory and it will stand out). Then, when you next load the game it will create a new one from the default settings.

sounds good, i should've changed "input for this game" while testing the controls rather than the "input all games". i'll have a go at it later tonight and report my status. as for the lightgun it's uninstalled and in the closet. it's a shame i won't be able to play police trainer anymore.

I don't know. The guns are awesome even if they are only really used for a handful of games. Now that I have my holsters complete, they look good too! It's funny because my wife didn't want the cabinet in the first place (shocking :o ), but now that I have it in and especially with the guns, she has told me that's her favorite part. Who knew ;)

No, I use a pair of PS2 guncon2 guns (Scorpion3's). I use WinGun as the driver and basically have 3 mice as a result. In MAME, I end up with configs that say "Gun on Mouse3 Y" or something. Basically, it took a LONG time to figure out how to use the software correctly, but once I figured it out, things work beautifully. The only thing that isn't perfect is shooting objects on the edge of the screen (within ~1-2" on a 27" display). That could be a result of either the glass or the bezel though, so I've just accepted that some badies in Area51 just can't be killed . Ehhh, as long as my wife stays happy (so the machine stays in the house), I'm okay with a couple misses!

well good for you bro. yah i remember my lcd topgun took a long time as well to set up. but i'm without the patience for it nowadays. i'm gonna say r.i.p. to my most loved shooters (police trainer, maximum force, operation wolf) i'm just happy my damn trackball is back on track. if my girl throws my arcade out, she's next.

Yeah I use the wingun drivers too but I use them for the topgun. The ems drivers don't work.

jt what's up my man? long time. yah i remember you helping me out last time. the ems driver works for me... that is in windows, and gameex, and i had it running before my format. do you think i should get the other driver you speak of with hopes of it working in mame?

Yeah I had the same thing, EMS good in windows but no go in Mame. It has something to do with a mame update a while back that deals with multiple mice or something. Don't use EMS drivers, try the wingun guncon2 driver and see if it helps.

Just a quick note, but a LOT of the people using the WinGun drivers are Topgun owners. Apparently, those included EMS drivers suck hard (for emulation anyway)! Definitely give WinGun a try and if needed, check out their forums. As I recall, they were pretty active and could help. There is a search feature there (obviously), so you should be able to find any details you might need without even waiting for a response!
