anyway to not have it say "launching street fighter II" for example after selecting to play the game?

I think the command line option is -Skip_gameinfo

for gameex? now that i re-read that it could be understood as the launch mame displays. i'm talking about the dialog within gameex that says "launching street fighter 2" right before mame starts.

Actually, I wouldn't mind being able to turn that off as well. I mean, I know I just told it to launch that game, so why reiterate what I already know... <_<

I never see anything while waiting for games to launch so I'm thinking it's in the config.

do you know where exacgly? in my case i designed a theme off of an existing theme. my theme is orange, and the existing was black, so that launching game dialog looks nasty. i figured instead of changing it to look good, i don't want it at all.

I don't know about an option to turn it off (I used the search feature of the Setup Wizard which is handy for things like this but it came up empty). I do know that you can make an image used in GameEx completely black and it won't show up. But I think "Launching.." will still show the text if you removed the background, and also any other scenario where the background is used means it won't show up then either. Apart from that, I don't know.

well i found out it is the "error dialog" (oddly enough) in the theme editor. i tried to customize it's colors to match my theme, and with the text being black it looks gross. if i can somehow change the text in the error dialog to white, we may have something here. if not, i deleted the error dialog from the media folder of my theme all together and the default sky blue doesn't match, but is at least legible. (it's only on the screen 2 seconds before launching the game anyhow, but i would like to get to the bottom of things.)
