[Release] PC Games database

Hi!

I just finished (5 minutes ago ;-) ) my project of a PC games database.

I started with my PC games, then I added popular ones, but after that I thought it would be great to have a really big database.

So I made it from #-Z. The descriptions and most of the informations like release dates are from the IGN database.

I put everything by hand into the database. So it was A LOT of work (working for 4 weeks on that one now). But I think it is a nice feature, well, I like it.

The database features currently 1360 games. (1984-2008) I already included upcoming games like Starcraft II, Sacred 2, Medal of Honor Airborne, Tabula Rasa or Unreal Tournament 3.

So when the games are released, and you put the shortcut into the pc-games GameEx folder, you will already have a description of this games.

If you have problems, search for the game if it is in the database and how it's named (because I had to remove all ":").

(shortcutname has to be the same as the name in the database)

I included the config file as well.

I hope you like this little gimmick.

PS:

It would be great if some people would help with an additional project. I thought it would be cool to have HQ cover and snapshot archives for PC games or other consoles. But it's impossible for one person to realise this. I already have some HQ pictures of my PC games and it's really cool to have such a quality + the descriptions. (video previews would be the best, but this is REALLY hard to realise..).

If 23 people could help with that, every one would work on one letter. (of course, more people are better). Think about it, it's just an idea.

On a semi-related topic - there's a big torrent of old "abandonware" (quote marks denote 'for all intents and purposes') DOS games at the Pleasuredome (2DVDs). I've been toying with the idea of creating .bat files for each game (games are currently in different folders etc), so you could just have GameEx looking for .BAT files, and leave the DVD set intact. Worthwhile, or has someone done something similar already?

Hey Nice Work I Would Love a PC Database

(video previews would be the best, but this is REALLY hard to realise..).

heres a little trick I figure out at one in the morning. Since my pc videos snaps wore giving me worthless results

I decided to try and download video game trails from GameTrailers.com (Natural)

basicly all you have to do is download the trailer you want in wmv format then rename it to the same name as your game shortcut and rename the file extention with .avi and their you go insta PC video snaps

ie t_counter-strike234.wmv > Counter-Strike Source.avi

One question you or some one on here can help with. Why wouldnt my game information be showing up for these games on the descrip window? I know its not them being shown outside of the area because I already checked the theme and other descrips show, but not for the PC Games. I even checked for example Prey, is named the same Prey, and no info shows.
