Fancy boosting my ego? ;)

Just for fun, post here your number one reason why GameEx is "The best gaming front end on the planet..."

The best answer (in my opinion) gets a free license at the weekend.

One post per user please.

Sounds fun Here is my input

Game ex is the best front end on the planet because it is so versitle that you can impress everyone from old school gamers to new school gamers with its fully customizable look and feel.

BTW awsome Idea for a contest.

Well here is why I think GameEX is such an amazing software package.

I have been in the IT/PC tech field for about 12 years, I am pretty young (late 20's) but have seen OS's Applications, and Ideas come and go.

Even when I was 15 and working at a local ISP I realised how horribly programmed most software was. It basically never did what it was intended to do, and if it did, it was a huge headache getting it to work. not to mention the fact that it was always expensive, and was lacking tons of basic, or needed features.

I have got into the habbit of "Trying" software, only to erase it off my HDD, feeling relief that I didn't pay for it, yet feeling bad for everyone who had paid for it. ( DOn't condone Piracy, but, I don't blame most pirates! Argggg!)

Fast forward to 2007, SOftware still sucks (Except a few open source projects here and there) I wanted to build a Killer HTPC. I wanted the Tivo-ish features, but most of all I wanted an arcade machine built in. As if it weren;t hard enough to get MCE 2005 working properly, getting Emulators to integrate into the interface was all buy impossible. MCE only allows 2 entries for 3rd party applications, pretty much useless. Then I ran across GameEX via Google search at 5am while at work (Network Operations=crazy hours) and needless to say I was blown away.

The features set was astounding, almost everything that MCE could do, GameEX could do, with the added Bonus of being able to seemlessly integrate almost every emulator/application, filling the huge gap that MCE left in my HTPC setup. Here are my main reasons for LOVING this software, and appreciating the time that has been put into it:

1) Setup: The Installation was insanely simple, but with all of the options to let us nerds install it with advanced configuration/features. (I appreciate that it doesn't assume we're all idiots, but makes it simple enough so if we were, it'd be no problem) Additionally I love how the installation does not clog my registry with useless garbage, I hate bloated software. Also the integrated download option for emulators, & themes etc is such a simple, & practical idea. It is a shame this idea is never used in other applications.

2)The Support, and website: The ammount of information available is a sharp contrast to most retail applications, I'm not saying that there is not a lot of information available, there is actually more valuable information on these few pages than most retail applications have across the whole internet. This program may not have a huge following or insane multi-website information bank, but It is a testament to the minimal issues that occur when using the software. Take any other program and google it and you will find tens, or even hundreds of forums, and message boards offering help, and documenting complaints, that often take hours to sift through. You have provided a huge ammount of information for users, and if some information is not here, you have provided the tools necesary for us to help eachother.

3)The Features: This is where I was so impressed, and sincerely felt hopeful for the future of software. The options available regarding configuration are laid out extremely well. The program definitely "rivals retail applications" and provides quick access to media, applications, and emulators. It intuitively gives you the ability to incorporate pretty much any Emulator you can imagine by making use of the command line-run (for launching the Emu's) I can't wait for the TV support to be integrated, I would gladly let GameEX take over my HTPC.

As it stands now though, I have the most amazing TV in my neighborhood, All of my friends come over to watch the recorded episodes of "Colbert Report" and always get distracted by the ability to play every SNES, NES, Genesis, NeoGeo, and Arcade game all from the couch, using my wireless Xbox360 Controllers.

I hope I didn't stroke you off too much haha :) But honestly, from across the pond I send my sincerest gratitude, this software rules.

Take Care!

Versatility, flexibility, usability, responsiveness.

GameEx is the most versatile front end available. It can run everything from emulators to telling you what the weather is all while playing your favorite music and more. It's flexibility of configurations makes it easy to set up a near endless application set. If the program is out there, you can get it working in GameEx with ease. Try that with ANY other front end and you might end up bald!

If you have any problems with the software (even if it's not a GameEx problem) the real prowess of GameEx will be discovered. Not only is there a community of users willing to help solve any problem you could possibly run across, but the author is diligent to fix any and all bugs in the program very quickly.

I have recently evaluated my front end needs for a new machine and found that while there are others out there with a longer history or claim to have fancier features, no other package combines the extensive features and polished look of GameEx with the responsive user-base/author support while at the same time being so flexible and usable.

Thanks Tom!

Made with everyone in mind, GameEx is the most flexible front end today. Even the average computer user with little to no knowledge can set up his/her very own MAME cabinet without any confusion!

Tom's been into the schnapps again :P

GameEx rules because it provides a modern interface, seamless across all aspects of computing A/V (every game and/or game system you can think of, music, vids, news), and is perfect for every situation from the smallest cocktail cab to the 10ft experience.

(don't use mine, I only entered to make the schnapps gag)

It's the best because it's updated all the time based on user's input. I can't think of another program, game, or even company that has this much user friendly help and keeps in touch with it's users so well. Oh ya, and it's all done by one person... and it's a FREE program!

So the reason is just the name "GameEx" itself!

No more explanation needed. ;-)

Gameex is so wonderful I've decided to simply list the few reasons I could think of that its not the best.

1. I cant fit it in my wallet.

2. I'm not a big fan of names with more then 5 letters in them, perhaps rename it Gamee, ohhh or Ameex, oh wait...

3. It can't shut my neighbors yappy dog up, although I here there's a plugin coming for that

4. It doesn't give its competitors a fighting chance.

It just is, damn it!!!

OK, seriously now...

The 'greatness' of this program is that it does so many things right. What makes GameEx so good is the robustness of the package, the ease of configuration, and the dedication of Tom and the community that surrounds GameEx.

When I started looking for a front end, I was sure I could find a free solution to use for a couple of emulators. I certainly was not ready a the goodness I found in GameEx. I seldom purchase 'shareware/donationware' because too many times they are either sub-standard or overpriced (or both). After seeing what the program could do, how easy it was to set up, and how much activity there was between Tom and the community, I was extremely impressed...later on, it bothered me that I was using such an excellent product and not showing support for it. The only right thing to do was purchase a license...

So, if any of you'all haven't put down some cash for this fine creation...consider giving a little...

Not an entry:

Here's my take on GameEx after a few spiritualistic pints, and a lot of typos :)

The beauty of Gameex is that it atcs as a multi-functional interface for forms of media which microsoft have overlooked.

GameEx has taken the best functions from the media center experience, and provided a platform for people to merge entertainment and media in a new way.

Gameex is the best because it saves time and effort. No need to go to several sites for emulators. Gameex allows you to get them there. If that wasn't enough, you now have a jukebox, video player, even karoake! All with little setup. Only a fraction of the knowlwdge you needed 2 years ago can get you seamlessly running. There is no reason to go elsewhere, because there is nothing this good. And I have put together 4 cabinets since 2001 I know how bad it can be. Finally a cheap and easy setup with updates to keep you covered down the road. What are you waiting for?

Okay comp is over, but I'm already registered anyway. So here are my favourite parts about GameEx..

- Setup (I was lucky enough to help out on this. And just to test it I wiped my cab and started again - it was alot easier second time!)

- Features (More features than you can poke a stick at from playing DVD's to karaoke, it's an entertaiment machine)

- Quality (The quality of GameEx matches commerical equivalents. The whole look and feel of GameEx from install to running is top quality)

- Graphics (It looks sexy and it's skinnable :-) )

- Themes (Take a look at some of those hot themes by people like Amos. It really adds to the experience)

- Customization (How many options and tweaks can you get in software? It caters for many tastes and needs)

- Plugins (Thanks to plugin feature a LEDWiz adds to the coolness of my cab. Sometimes I boot up my cab with jukebox just to create a nice atmosphere)

- Active Development (It's nice too see new features been added all the time)

- Support (Users who come on the forum and keep helping others just for the love of the hobby and GameEx)

- People (from end users to experts the people involved in GameEx are great people)

- Tom (not only a great programmer but a top bloke to boot!)

- Bragging Rights (showing visitors the arcade machine wouldn't be the same without GameEx)
