G'day Guys / Tom,

Novice Registered user of GameEx who is having a few problems with my Automatic Update feature. I have GameEx running on two PC's (My desktop / test machine) and also on my cab. I recently networked up my Cab to make it internet enabled and although I seemingly whenever I turn on my desktop / test centre GameEx recieve notifications about available updates, this never seemingly occurs on my arcade machine.

On both machines I have the "Ask me if I want the update" enabled in the Enable / Disable config menu.

Wondering if anyone would have any ideas on something else I could check to get the auto updates running on my cab machine?

Cheers Guys.

Unfortunately this feature hasn't worked for me on either machine. Hopefully someone knows how to diagnose the diagnosis. :)

Try putting GameEx in windowed mode next time you get a prompt for an update (Alt-Enter) and see if some sort of notification pops up asking to allow GameEx access to the internet.

My issue here is that I don't even recieve a prompt to update. The only way I know there is one is by visiting the forum.

The issue happens on the 3 connections I use to access the net... On the laptop I use satellite and DSL, my cab is networked at home but the PC and the cab don't update manually. There's nothing blocking this from happening, as I have set my firewalls to allow GameEx and the auto update exe to access the internet.

No idea why this stopped working... It always did before Tom disabled it many versions ago.

Hey Guys,

Many thanks for your suggestions. Will follow up on the Firewall / windowed suggestions and feedback.

If these fail - would I be right in saying simply installing a new version will preserve all my current settings / etc?

Any updates on this? I don't have the windows firewall enabled. I do however have a hardware firewall. Funny thing is this feature used to work and nothing has changed on my network configuration. Is Gameex now calling out for an update on a specific port where as in the past it didn't?

Ummmm yeah. Sooooo "without any attitude meant or applied" I'm confused because all this shows me is you know how to create a DNS CNAME record???? Oh wait a minute, or is this you telling me GameEx does nothing but do a normal call to port 80?

Its actually not a cname record try any sub domain and yourll see, im just trying to start troubleshoot this, but yes it is a standard call to port 80. Ill get to back to you shortly on this.

Adultry, would you mind doing some private testing with me on this. If so could you email please?

Thanks a lot.

Tom.

And for the record to "try" to help.

1.) Fresh loaded MCE 2005 with fresh install of GameEx 8.07 "NOT integrated into MCE"

2.) Using Wireless NIC which does pull an IP before GameEx is "manually" launched

3.) Wired NIC makes no difference either

4.) Old OS drive has same issue

Gosh, ummm - I don't see any errors showing up on Event Viewer either. Any GameEx logs I can send you?

I was extremely happy to see my cab auto update itself for the first time in... forever! :)

Great job Tom! :)
