Gameex detects all mame roms, but installs about half of them

G'day,

I have installed mame 112 binary executable files and the full mame 112 rom set.

If i test the roms with a front end like 'easy mame' it detects about 6000 roms and i can play what ever i want and all 6000 games are shown.

If i start up Gameex and tell it to do the mame update it goes thru and detects over 6000 roms and adds them but when i go back in to gameex and select all mame games to play it brings up about half of the roms.

Is there a limit to how many games gamex will show in mame?

Thanks for your time

I dont think there is a limit on the amount of game: it's down to what filters are enabled. If you want all the roms, you'll find lots of them are clones, so you could jave 20 versions of Space Invaders, for example. Do yo really want ALL those Mahjong games?

I have all Mahjong games off, No clones unless better, allow imperfect, bracketed text off. Cuts the list down to about 3000 or so, but even then I don't think I'll ever get around to playing them all, and only a few hundred at most more than 10 times! I suppose it is nice to have the otion though.

I agree. I think it's a bug. When I go to favorites, it displayes about 168 of 204 of the games I have listed. Also when I go to view all the MAME games, it won't display them all. I have also made sure that the front-end is configured to display all types of games. Hopefully this will be fixed by the next release *crossing fingers*

Just a thought, but perhaps one of you guys that's having a problem with this could upload a zipped copy of your gameex.ini file so Tom could see your actual filters and such. It might help him narrow down the problem.

I've been down this road before - certainly disable any filtering in Mame AND GameEx. I saw once that I had around 2000 roms showing up and for some strange reason I re-audited my roms in Mame32 then GameEx once again asked me to update and all the roms showed up. I now make it a habit to do this in order now.

1.) Download roms

2.) Download latest Mame and install

3.) Download latest clrmame and install

4.) Audit/update roms with CLRMAME

5.) Audit roms through Mame

6.) Open GameEx and let it update the roms list.

I haven't had an issue since. Dumb luck or maybe I'm onto something??

It didn't work for me I'm afraid. I downloaded clrmame and let it scan and rebuild my rom files. I then re-audited the games in MAME. I had GameEX rebuild the list of MAME games and it still doesn't display all of them. It actually didn't effect the game list in GameEX at all. *sigh*

Did you go into GameEx config and disable any and all filtering? As in Clones, mature and so on?

Did you also make sure you don't have the one filter on for Countries? "I'm not in front of my arcade right now sorry"

AND if using Mame32 make sure filtering is NOT enabled - not sure if GameEx picks up on this but try it anyway ;)

Ummmm, once you've done this go back into GameEx and if it doesn't automatically ask you to update then manually force it off the main menu

Also, if this doesn't work...... attach your GameEx config file.

Yeap, I did everything you mentioned. One thing I just did was to run the front-end and choose Update List under MAME. After it did the update, it displayed all 6,000+ ROMS that MAME supports. I went into the GameEX config file and made sure to have it only display the ROMS I really have. Then it displayed about 550 ROMS. Still quite a bit more than I really had, but it was better. It, at least, now displayed all the games that were missing in my favorites, so I just manually went through and added them to my favorites from within the front-end. So it wasn't a perfect sollution, but overall it accomplished what I wanted.
