Something that just occured to me.

By using the ROM Filter setting you should be able to filter ROMS to a further extent rather than just the file extension. Wildcards are supported.

Suppose you just wanted to list USA games you could use this filter:

*(U)*.zip

Have not tried it but all wildcards should be supported.

For (E) and (U):

*(U)*.zip;*(E)*.zip

Hope this helps.

thanks, this helps.. is there a program that does this too? between NES and SNES and Genesis, I have about 10 gigs used for Japan games that I will never play.. is there an easy way to get rid of them without using windows delete of course.

If you ROMS are named in GoodTools format, I believe GoodTools can separate ROMS by country (have yet to try this on my cab, but plan to). Then, you can just eliminate the folders for the countries you don't want.

i've used WinRAR to grab the files/roms that I want to keep. you can make an archive and tell it in wildcard form which files to include and which to exclude, if any. its a real life saver.

If you want do this with your actual files, use windows search.

So in Explorer or my computer, right click the roms folder click Search.

Where it ask for filename again use wildcards such as *(U).* for USA games. Perform the search. Click Edit Menu, Click Select All, then copy. Create a new folder then Click Edit menu - paste. Then delete the original folder if you want to.

Basic computer stuff to me, but I guess to some others its stuff they don't know.

You could also try the No-Intro dats. Their aim is to only list the known good roms.

Goodtools also has an option to place the roms into different folders - i.e. put the (J) ones in the Japan folder and (U) in USA, etc.

It seems that the NES roms are in a huge mess at the moment. The No-Intro dat for NES has some problems (according to forum posts). Cowering (creator of goodtools) has been buying and dumping every single NES cartridge released to try and fix the problems with all the bad NES dumps, etc!

I also have full romsets, but choose to primarily play U games. Keep in mind there are many titles that are in english that were never released in the US however (European, Australian, and some Japanese games). For instance the European release of Zero Wing (notorious for All Your Base english butchery) was never released stateside. In addition there are some rom hacks of Japanese RPG's that were fan-translated into English, though they were never released stateside.

So before you go deleting your international rom sets, make sure to take a look and see if there is anything that might actual be of interest to try. I found a handful of interesting titles that I would never have played if I was exclusive to *U* games. There are plenty of good games that have never been released commercially in the USA.

Enjoy!

Thought you'd disappeared Dave! Glad your still lurking.

Another opton is just to list all games, and go through the list hitting delete in GameEx to filter them out.

Hey Tom, I don't have the time anymore that I used to. My son turns 1 next week, so he is a little more independent now.

I recently upgraded my cab to the (then) latest version of GameEx, although it's already outdated :) It appears you have been busy adding more and more useful features, and growing your fan club. I want to see what the new skins can do, but I haven't time to play with it myself. I am probably missing out on a ton of other features added in the last year, now where did I put that manual?

I am looking into upgrading my MAME-Cab PC, I am still running that PIII 800mhz in my sig :( And my AVGA is a 7200 based, so I think I want a 9250 one now.

My goal is ~P4-2.4ghz, 1GB RAM, 160GB HD (got this covered), with the AVGA 9250. I am cragslisting now for parts, I might be able to do this upgrade for <$150 WOOT! Then there won't be much I can't play at full speed.
