[RESOLVED] Gamepad control issues in 18.99

Hi guys,

have there been changes in the way GameEx controls with a standard Xbox controller? In my new 18.99 setup GameEx won't accept any joystick input, the exact same configuration in my old 18.64 setup is working flawlessly.

I am not aware of anything but I will have a look.

I see this in the log: Unable to create a joystick device.

By the way that note in the log, normally means it cant find any gamepads attached to the system. Do they show up in the setup wizard? Do they show up otherwise on the system?

Yes they do. I have two wireless controllers, an old Xbox 360 and a fairly new Xbox Series X controller with up to date firmware. Both are recognized in the setup wizard for settings and can be used in emulators, both standalone and via GameEx. They both seem to work correctly according to joy.cpl. 

Some more info: I have an old Win10 setup with GameEx 18.64 (working) and the new one (Win11 Pro with 18.99). I‘ll try to pinpoint things later after work and will report back.

@Tom Speirsisn't the log supposed to reflect the Windows version? All I see is 64-bit, no Windows 11 or other.

Yes, it is. That is odd. It does for me. It is not restoring the emulators from cache either. i wonder if gameex.ini is bad.

I did some installing, please see attachment. It seems to me that it is not related to the Windows version and happened from GameEx 18.84 to 18.85. 

18.84 works with Win 11 as well, that‘s not in the attachment  

(As for the ini all I can say that it‘s a new configuration from scratch and that there was no text editing or the like).

The emulation caching is a bug. That will be fixed tonight.

its not the ini. is it running under a reduced user account privilege?

Anyway, the os thing isnt a huge deal.

i will have to dig out a gamepad but I just released version 19 which fixes the emulator caching issue.

Yeah, with the new setup I completely forgot to check the 'run as administrator' box... I did now, GameEx.ini (from 19.00) attached.

You should not need to run it as admin. i wouldnt worry about the os not displaying. it shouldnt affect anything else.

What version of windows 11 is it?

Do you still have the windows 10 rig? Does version 19 work on that? Does an earlier version work on the windows 11 setup?

I did see something off in the gamepad code but not sure why it was working before.

The attached replacement addresses it.

btw tried again 19.00 (without the new dll) which is not working. Tried both my Win 10 and Win 11 setups with no difference.

Its a weird one but i just released 19.01 with that change. Let me know if you have more issues.
