I've been testing out GameEx on my new cab to see whether I'd like to buy it. Barring a few--what appears to be--stability glitches I'm pretty impressed. Since I'm using UltraStiks, one thing I want is for UltraMap to run within GameEx to change the stick maps since it appears there is no solution yet for having presaved maps launch automatically on a game by game basis. I pointed the GameEx setup so that Ultramap appears within the menu under the other apps. But when I select it it appears to leave GameEx for a moment for it to launch, then it aborts and comes back to the GameEx screen. From reading through the features of the licensed version it doesn't appear it is needed to test this feature. Is the licensed version of the software needed for this intra-frontend app support, or is there a bug or problem I need to troubleshoot?

Thanks

Are you running a batch file? Is show desktop on? Do you need to config on a game by game basis? Or on an emu basis?

"show desktop" is selected. Presently I do need to configure and load maps on a game by game basis--or at least when i play a game that has a different setup than what is currently downloaded.

Can you post a snap shot of your setup in setup wizard?

Okay will figure out how to take a snapshot. (I'm a Mac guy except for this new PC cabinet.) Or I'll document it and post the info tomorrow. Thanks for the help.

You could theoretically just export the emulator by opening the Advanced Config and clicking Export. Then, simply change the file extension (.ini) to a notepad (.txt), then post the .txt for us here.

Well I tried to export the configs from Advanced Config to create a log for you. I saw "Open INI File" in the menu to see if export contained in that function, since it was the only command in the File menu besides Exit. Chose the former and all the config entry fields on the menus went blank. I clicked "cancel" and relaunched the config. Now all my custom settings before are gone.

GameEx now ceased to launch.

So I ran Setup Wizard again, reentered ALL my config prefs again, and then tried running GameEx again. Still GameEx doesn't now run anymore at all. Viewing the log I see before the abort:

Loading default loading screen

Error 13 - Cast from string " " to type "Double" is not valid.

ERRORS DETECTED: EXITING

Crap! It appears my GameEx is totally screwed over now.

It takes a brave man to admit he uses a Mac...the first step is admitting you have a problem! :D

Post your log and we will help you get up and running...(just kidding about your Mac...they make fine aquariums!

And lovely centerpieces for your holiday table. :D

I can't say for sure, but it seems to me that you have an empty file path somewhere. Just a guess though.

An oddity is when i rerun Advanced Config none of the entry fields show any prefs--all are blank. If I run Setup Wizard MOST of the fields reflect the prefs I've set up save a few menus. Nonetheless completing the setup wizard makes no difference, the log still generates that same error report when I try to launch the software. If I go thru Advanced Config and fill in all the fields and Save it, when I reopen it all are blank again. This is not like it used to be before I clicked on Open INI File. Advanced Config used to show the prefs I had set up.

That doesn't sound good... You tried deleting GameEx.ini in the config folder? If not, try that and set it up again. Or, and I'd say this is your best bet - uninstall GameEx from the control panel, then delete the folder from your Program Files menu. Then reinstall GameEx again.

.:.EDIT.:. I was asking you to export the emulator's config file, not the GameEx config. I fear you may have misunderstood me. :( You should have been able to export emulator configs through the emulator's menu on advanced config page 2 or 3.

I'll try that tonight. Thanks for the suggestion. Maybe I'll get lucky. My gut is telling me that this little bug messed it up and a reinstall will be the only way to get it fixed. Bummer. Just after I had got the favorites all tweaked the way I like. :-(

If I didn't believe that GameEx has some real potential I'd give up on it.

I mentioned this in another thread recently but you to may benefit from XP's system restore. Go back a week to when everything was working and see what happens. ;) Good luck, need to get those 360's hummin again. By the way a member named cupid is working on a plugin to change the configs from within gameex.

He mentioned it should be ready for primetime in the near future. :)

Well I admit I'm a major Noob when it comes to Windows. I need to track down where that Restore function is hidden and I'll try it out. I haven't installed anything new since GameEx crapped out on me.

System Restore is found by clicking on your Program file list, accesories, system tools, then system restore.

it is very easy to use.

Well some great news: GameEx is working again. And working better in that my UltraMap software is working fine with it too.

I tried just tossing the INI file and going through a completely new setup. It did make progress in that it remembered my prefs after quitting and restarting. Unfortunately the frontend still didn't launch.

So I tried something different: I ran the GameEx install without uninstalling first. Not only did it remember the new config file I had set up but it also remembered all the favorites we had set up the first time we installed. Wierd, but it appears to be working great now.

Now if I can just get my panel and Ultrastiks to stop ceasing to work once GameEx goes into attract mode. Or rather when I stop attract mode ready to play again.

Cupid is working on a plugin for Ultrastick which should hopefully make it easy for folks to use.

It is possible without the plugin and GameEx supports controls that switch modes.

Hopefully the plugin will be released soon, but below is a top level overview of how to do it the hard way.

in the GameEx config look at the run on launch setting under Advancde MAME Settings. Note the [CONTROL] and the included controlmap.csv file.

Iâ??m just pasting in the help text here, so itâ??s a bit messy:

Shell the following command before launching a MAME or Zinc game.# And command to run after the game has exited. Leave blank to do nothing.## For ShellBeforeLaunch -# The following square bracketted setting can be used in the command line# [ORESX] [ORESY] Original game X and y Resolution# [ARESX] [ARESY] Calculated ArcadeVGA game X and y Resolution# [GAME] The running MAME games name as displayed in the gameex games list# [ROM] The MAME ROM NAME# [CONTROL] The control mode number as matched in controls.ini by# controlmap.csv## EXAMPLE: ShellBeforeLaunch = c:\switchres.bat [ARESX] [ARESY]# EXAMPLE 2: ShellBeforeLaunch = C:\SwithControl.bat [CONTROL]
