Has anyone created an external sensor panel for displaying various details, such as temps, drive space, FPS, etc.?

This video shows how to use AIDA64 with a Lamptron display panel.

Lots of other videos and many panel sources. You can use AIDA64 or Trigone to display to an old Android tablet or smartphone.

AIDA64 is very mature with a lot of support. I find it to be more intuitive to use. There is an annual support fee, however, the app will continue to work after the subscription expires.

Trigone is the new kid. It leverages a PC "server" client that feeds data via WiFi to a WiFi-enabled smartphone or tablet with an app installed. It is free but documented support and templates are limited. I will say that support via Facebook Messenger with the author was quick and direct getting me over a setup hump.

I like the idea of using an USB to micro-USB connection, but if you look at the Lamptron offerings, the price points are a bit steep. Of course, there are many others that offer similar displays and the prices are all over the place, getting more expensive with size. I have a few options to toy with and may end up using an extra 1920x1080 monitor using USB A to HDMI connection. This should work fine since the display is not being leveraged for gaming.
