Ok, I was actually thinking about doing this before Adultery had suggested it. With the recent rise in custom made themes, and the ability to use a custom background for each emulator, I feel it necessary to begin a standardized naming system. We need everybody to conform to this system so that the settings can be shared between different themes.

Here's what I was thinking. For the logos, everything is named lowercase, and for the backgrounds we use lowercase like the logos, but include the word BACK in the name.

Uniformity wouldn't be a bad idea, but I think for the most part everyone is using a similar naming system (usually "[consolename]BAK.png", no 'C')

I agree. I just think everybody should work out and agree one a standardized naming system so everything will be cross-compatible between themes. Something else I was thinking about... if everybody uses the same LOGOS, why don't we just get TOM to establish a default LOGOS folder that just stores them. That might save a lot of disk space, rather than having 20 or so different copies of the same image for the Logo. If somebody wants to make a new version, you can still include that, but for the most part, just use the default logo system provided already. Something else along with that, we could have different versions be named accordingly in the default logo folder.. IE; genesis.png, genesis2.png, genesis3.png. Then the user can decide which version they like.

Its a nice idea, but it might be hard to get right.

If you wanted to select a strange background for an emulator, like 'megadrive.png' instead of 'genesisbak.png' every other theme would show the basic background like 'bak.png' or 'emubak.png' or maybe the 'arrowup.png', because the 'megadrive.png' doesn't exist in the other theme directories.

It only takes a few minutes to add the info to the theme.ini.

Plus im not sure how the custome emu layout will work exactly, but i think that the emulators might need to be added to the theme.ini anyway? The theme editor generates emulator.ini's when the [emulator] info is added.

To use standardised logos is easier, just add them to the 'default-default' theme, and delete all other logos from the themes.

The problem is that alot of themes have framed the icons to suit the specific theme, some sit high/or low on screen, and have been made to a resolution to match the theme.

Just my 2 cents, i just think taking the time to add the info to the ini would be more reliable.

Sorry Han, we might have to agree to disagree

This is what the Default-Default folder is for in the Themes folder. :)

Yes, true, but a standard naming system would make it easier to copy/paste emulator data into the theme.ini which would releive us of having to explain the setup process every time...

Or we could go back to my original idea of saving the info so when you change themes, it remembers the settings you had set for that theme.
