Man if you're willing to do the work, i'd love ya. :) The best place I've found so far is:

http://releases.pocketheaven.com/?system=g...on=release_list

They are in release order... which means they go 0001, 0002, 0003, up to the latest which is 2568. My plans were, eventually, to save all their images. Make a folder for snaps, titles, and boxes (haven't seen any carts...). Then save each image in their number form. 0001.jpg for screen, 0001.jpg for title, 0001.jpg for box.. then go on to 0002 and so on. That way GameEx would read them in the correct order. Then whenever Nintendo stops making GBA games and starts only making NDS games, I'd find a good merge tool and merge them. My merge would be as such so that when you choose to play "Super Mario Advance", it would load up in the menu showing "0002 - Super Mario Adance (JP), 0025 - Super Mario Advance (USA), and 0050 - Super Mario Advance (EU)". I thought that would be cool so that you could then see the order they were released in. But, if you DO decide to rip the artwork, however you do it... could you zip up each individual folder (snap/title/box) and share it with us? There's a lot of people who would grab it from ya. :)

the site headkaze mentioned has everything up to 2250

maybe a couple of us can get together and get the remaining 300 off of pocketheaven?

Hmm...

you guys know of a tool that will rename the artwork jpg's to match the no-intro or goodset file naming convention?

I wrote one a while back using vbscript (.HTA) too.. thought I posted it here, but it could've been another forum. Worked well, but IE security wreaked a bit of havoc when processing more than say 10,000 files in a folder (like my C64 roms/snaps). If the above are no good, let me know and I'll dig up my script.

I'm so lost. I don't know what set I have. I remember I started out downloading a torrent with about 1700 roms in it. Then I started downloading new roms via the alt.binaries.emulators.gameboy-advance newsgroup. I've been doing that ever since. I guess there are multiple versions of the release list. There's a GoodName version that's severely out of date, there's the No-Intro set, a TOSEC set, and offline set, that advance-power set HK provided, the pocketheave set I provided.. LOL. They're all different!! If you look at one set's list, say rom #2250, it's one title, while on all the others, they're all different! And none of them match the name and number that I have! Whats the deal!?

edit: can't seem to find box or cart scans though :(

Watch this space, dude.. I just checked my artwork archives, and realised I didn't have GBA boxes or carts either (thought I did.. was sure I did at one stage). I just found an awesome repository of artwork, and am starting to leech now. Once I've got it all, I'll post the URL (not being a bastard, just want to make sure they don't remove the files due to server overloading). If they do remove it, I'll put it up on a torrent tracker somewhere.

Should be done downloading within a day or so.

Cheers,

Brett

edit: finished leeching. Looks fairly complete, but its boxes only, not carts. (being GBA, am assuming thats not such a big problem anyway...?)

Well if you can dig me up copies of the dat files used for the sets...I maybe able to work things out. :)

Its been a couple of months since I downloaded the torrent. I don't remember where I got it, and I don't have any dats in my rom folder. :( Guess I'm screwed all around. I'll just have to wait until somebody releases a new, up to date torrent.

Well I think we can work around that...I've found a few dat set's and trying to get a feel for things really at this point.

Currently I'm looking at using the set found here.

Tho its not as complete as the one found here.

I do like the prior's naming method better tho.

Ok.. but look at their most recent games.....

The most recent game I physically have on my drive is "2568 - Who Wants to Be a Millionaire Junior".

The first page has "2543 - The Sims 2 - Pets" as the most recent game.

The 2nd page doesn't even have a LIST... so I can't compare it.

Also, on my drive, 2543 is "2543 - Uno 52.zip". LOL! I did a search to see what number "sims 2 pets" is, and I apparently don't even have that rom. So my collection is TOTALLY out of whack. :)

Yeah mine is as well...I can't seem to find a dat set that match's what mine is...as best as I can recall....system is still awol.

Any ways we can probably both work around this problem by simply working off CRC32 checks...I'd personally prefer some thing more anal...but all the dat sets use CRC32...so thats what we'll have to work with.

I still have loads of prep work to do before we can even attempt to match names and such.

Main issu currently is that I recently found out that all the images I leeched from the first site I link to...don't even match their own release numbering system....So right now as I type I have an AutoIt script surfing in IE to all the different release pages of that site...and generating a list of release numbers\CRC32 numbers\Image numbers...probably should have made it grab the game name as well...but this is taking long enough as it is...and I can likely work around it just fine. :)

So with any luck in an hour, I'll have that list complete and can start moving on to other things.

If your game for trying this out...I highly suggest backing up your GBA roms first before letting this thing loose. ;)

Things should turn out fine...I just get worried when I could by chance cause someone to have a really bad day. :(

Well, I'm playing it safe and just gonna keep going the way I have been. No snaps or nothing, and downloading new ROMS posted to the news group as the come. :) When all is said an done (hopefully not too much longer), then I'll just grab a full merged set when somebody builds one from knowing what they're doing. :)

Posted

As you wish...but things should be fine. Hehe I just tend to scare people some times.

I've attached whats been generated thus far from my surfing script.

The first few numbers prior to the pipe symbol "|" are their release numbers...then followed by the CRC32 value...then lastly image number...as you can tell they are not in sync...which I'll be correcting and uploading an archive of the corrected files some where.

*Update*

Okay things are starting to come together...now attached is notes and scripts I intend to post over at http://www.advanscene.com/ mainly dealing with getting their numbers matching up between release & image numbers.

Getting there tho :)

Looks good. When you're finally done, just tell me what I have to do on my end. :) Or if you feel kindly, build and seed a torrent somewhere. :)

Ideally it should be a lot faster to use the automated script than to redownload every thing.

Plus right now I don't have my main system...so I don't even have any wheres close to a fullset...since there is a huge difference in storage between the two systems...2tb vs 100gb.

Hehe not to mention I'm in a huge pissing match with a superior court judge right now....which is why my main system isn't here right now...don't want to get caught with my pants down. ;)

Your computer get confiscated? That sucks! mp3s do ya in like everyone else? :(

Posted

No it didn't get snatched...I just moved it else where for the time being.

Actually its my brother thats having legal issues...I just happen to be the guy pissing off the Judge because he's a jackass, and dirty.

I'll have to tell you guys about this stuff later on...its simply insane...and if I wasn't living through it, I frankly wouldn't believe it if some one had told me the whole sorted story...because by and large its like one of those made for TV court drama's.

Really once I get a full grasp of just how fucked up things are, this will in all likely hood make it into the papers and maybe national news...its that ugly up.

Hehe anyways we are off topic, and this forum & app are kind of my escape from the bs right now...so don't really want to get this sucked into it as well.

Posted

Well, just tell your bro to stop being such a big pimp and making porno's. :) LOL just kidding man. Take your time with everything, no big rush at all.

Posted

LOL I wish that was the case. ;)

Really this shouldn't take much time...mostly I'm trying to figure out whats the best route to go...rather than just slapping things together.

That and like I've said in prior threads...hehe I'm a newbie. :)

You know... The link provided on the previous page worked like a charm for me.

My GBA ROMS are current and up to date and listed by release number. These snaps coincide with that naming system...

I have a full set but since GoodMerge isn't a good option for this system, I just made a .map file to weed out the extras and remove the numbers when displayed on the GameEx list. For my money, this is the only option at this point... Until, of course, Cowering gets his s**t together and releases something way more current. GBA games are really trickling in since the DS went hot all the sudden. Shouldn't be that difficult to add another 50 roms next year as opposed to adding another 1500 tomorrow... *shrug*

But are they really current to the day? I mean, what is the last ROM you have? I bet its only around 2540ish.. last I saw, they're nearing the 2600 mark, like 2594 or something. I'm willing to bet, that even though your set is matching with another website's dat file, you're still missing a large portion of ROMs. That's why I was talking about how the most recent ROM on one page was saying it was The Sims - Pets while my most recent ROM I have downloaded (and numbered...) is like 30 more ROMs higher.
