If I was to understand the post about the new version (6.98 is what I have I believe) the bezels are supposed to work for vertical games, but not for me. My verts just fall back to the GameEx GUI unless I disable the bezel.

Any suggestions?

Atleast you can get in. GameEx 6.98 freezes up on the Home page for me :( (details in the GameEx 6.98 post)

I was able to get past the Home Page. I updated from within GameEx. I went into the MAME games menu but before I went further I remembered "I probably need to enable the bezel." So I exited GameEx and enabled the bezel. Then I went back into GameEx, then MAME games, then Vertical Games. It popped up an option at the point to update the game list. Ignorantly, I chose not too, and tried to launch 1941. It didn't work, and went back to GameEx. It's possible you have to rebuild/update the game list before the bezel artwork will work. I'm testing the theory by updating it now. It may also need to be directly updated from the website, and not updated from within GamEx. I'll report back if it works/fails.

I already tried to rebuild the game list - no dice. :(

Posted

I actually said yes to when GameEx detected a new version of Mame and did the update list thing, then I exited GameEx and turned on the Bezel feature went back into GameEx and tried 1942, but it went straight back to the game select screen. So I can confirm that there may be a problem with bezel feature.

/me is glad to see he's not losing his mind. :)

There still seems to be issues with auto update. You need to do a manual install to get the bezel v2 files

You dont need to update the list, thats just because GameEx now checks for a change in mame version, and as theres no history for the mame version for your install prior to this release it prompts.

The exception problem is fixed in 6.99 now available.

Thanks.

Tom: I did do a manual install of 6.98 and I have the same bezel issues as reported here.

Can you change the mamefilesize in gameex.ini under [internal] ,launch gameex, post your log, and check you have bezelversion=2 in gameex.ini under [internal]

Thanks.

I just my rebuilding/updating and came here to report. I didn't know more messages had been posted, but here's what happened. GameEx crashed! It went to a black screen for about 5 minutes. I had to ALT+CTRL+DEL to get out of it. I'm rebuilding it again now. Guess the Bezel problem still isn't fixed yet. I hope this didn't break people's setups that don't use the new bezel format....

You all need to get 6.99, 6.97 and .98 are going to have crash issues.

HK: Can you also check youve not got an existing bezel there.

I erased the original bezel and replaced it with Mr. Do's once it was available. I'm going to just erase all the files in there, and reinstall it from the web.

[EDIT] Just erased the files in /bezel/ and downloaded the latest install from the web. Installed it. Checked the /bezel/ folder and noticed there's 2. /BEZEL/ and /BEZELV2/ Both folders have files in them, where I had erased them before. Tried to run GameEx, mame, vertical, 1941.. it crashed back to GameEx again. Tried 1942 and 1943 as well. Still no go for me.

Posted

Same thing happened, but this time when I tried 1942 I noticed it performed that exception error. So I'm going to update to 6.99 and see if that solves it.

Just checked for HK on the gameex.ini too... I do have a line under [internal]:

BezelVersion=2

It does look like it's trying to run with the artwork... Maybe GameEx is reporting the artwork path incorrectly?

Updated to 6.99, updated my gamelist, launched a vertical game. It took GameEx a long time (like 30-45 seconds) to drop back to the GUI. Still bezel problems here unfortunately...

Posted

Yeah I just did an update to latest version (6.99) and still same issue with me. GameEx.ini has BezelVersion=2 under [internal] and there is a folder called BEZELV2 in the MEDIA dir. I'll post a log if need be.

Posted

I'm on version 7.01 and still having issues. I had to change BezelVersion=1 to 2 in gameex.ini for vertical games to load, but they still don't show any bezel. I'm not sure what else I can try. It also seems to go back to bezelversion=1 when I try to change some settings in gameexconfig.

Great piece of software by the way.

edit: It's also always asking me to update the gamelist, I've done so a few times by now (by accident mostly) but it keeps asking.

Oh, and a side-question: MAME games don't have any last played info, was that always so or did I just only now notice it?

Posted

If you're using old artwork files instead of the GameEx bezel, open one of the .zips (for 1942 perhaps).

If you downloaded these before 0.106 you'll note that the artwork has a .map file with it. The new MAME (0.106-current) uses a .lay file instead of a .map file to display bezels. If you remove your artwork path in mame.ini and remove it from gameex setup, you should see Tom's bezel.

The GameEx program asks you to update your game list each and every time you make a change to MAME. It's recommended you follow this through.

I think you can enable/disable the last played game feature in the Advance Configuration.

Hope that helps. :)

GameEx ALWAYS changes my bezelversion to 1 if I change ANYTHING using the Advanced Configuration app.

And then asks if I want to update the gamelist even though that doesn't help, so then vertical games doesn't work until I manually go to gameex.ini and change the bezelversion to 2 again. Clearly a bug here, Tom. Is there a setting to make GameEx not mess with bezel-settings? Or in the next version?

I've not seen this.. did you do a direct download of the 7.02 version? I believe Tom mentioned the autodownloader still doesn't work right yet.
