hey guys, what would you say the best screen resolution on background images is on a 27" television? also, is there a way to make game ex's menu font bigger cuz it's kinda hard to read on a tv.

If you open up the "Advanced Configuration" app, and go to "Display" you can set font size there. But beware that font size can also be stored in the themes' .ini-files, so depending on your choice in theme, you'll have to check that also.

Best resolution for your TV is depending on if you use S-VHS, composite, component-RBG or Scart-RBG inputs. If you're using S-VHS, then I would recommend 1024x768 or 800x600. I'm not sure what you mean with "background images", do you mean the desktop wallpaper?

i was talking about the theme background, and it's looking ok now, but can i change the text size? it's legible but barely. also, on older console emulators (nestopia for example) how do you change the refresh rate? certain screens/images look real liney. thanks everyone, the arcade is working flawless thanks to you all, i just have to pick up plexi glass tomorrow morning for the tv bezel and marquee... afterwards i will be adding another gameex machine to the user uploaded cabinets section. (and probably on the normal board too becasue as you all know i'm post happy).

im not sure how its works but a television if its a standard TV cant goto 1024x768

NTSC ~270 Ã? 480 lines , Pixels = 129,600 , FPS = 30 ? (US)

PAL. ~350 Ã? 576 lines , Pixels = 201,600 , FPS = 24 ? (Europe)

so i guess to have a cleare picture pal would be best (if possible depends on what TV you got) becouse of alittle higher resolution

but then you lost about 5-6 frames per second what can make games look alittle smoother

so its a matter of taste i guess ....

and if you got a HDTV forget what i just wrote :o

If your Tv dosent supports Ntsc or Pal you will get black and white screen or nothing showing at all so its a matter of what types your Televisions supports as well

last im not sure about the numbers above are 100% correct some are what i think they are but even they should be off alittle it should still be pretty close :)

hope it helps alittle

Yes, to use the native resolutions would of course be best, but since we don't know what type of input he's using (and my guess here was S-VHS, because that's the most common type in MAME cabs). RGB would of course be the best because that would mean he could turn his TV into a true arcade monitor with the right videocard and modelines.

well, i'm using a 27" US magnavox. it's connected to my PC by S-Video, and plugs into the RCA jacks (red, white, yellow) in the back of my tv. i got it looking about right, but certain systems, like NES some parts of the screen with a lot of pixels close together, (like a shadow from a building for example) look really liney. i'm guessing it's the refresh rate is a little too fast on the PC for the NES emulator, but dont know how to change it. I'm using nestopia. so basically that's my only problem right now. i wish i could put it into words better what it looks like, but i can't.

if anyone has a cab with a tv, load the game "T&C surf design" for NES, and choose the skateboarding game. right when you start off the shadows on top of the street is a perfect example. it just looks like theres movement in that area, like a rippling effect. hope that helps.
