Good afternoon.
In view of an insurmountable problem (link attached) :

I decided to do a clean installation of Gameex. To see if I can get rid of this problem that haunts me.

However, shamefully, I'm having a problem with one of the most basic parts, which is adding background screens to the home screen of gameex and also that of each system I have (snes ... mega drive ... etc ..)

I add the background screen but they don't appear.
Please ... can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong?
Attached are photos that effectively show the configuration made by me.

I sincerely apologize for the silly post but I can't see my mistake.:(

I have a suggestion and you are not going to like it much. Get GameEx installed using the default theme. Then get your systems configured and working properly. Skinning or creating custom themes and backgrounds should be the VERY LAST THING YOU DO!

That said, you may want to consider building your theme using a different theme than After Dark from which to backwards engineer your own theme. Yes, it is a fantastic theme but it is heavily customized and unless you are very very comfortable with skinning and themeing for GameEx, it will more than likely frustrate you beyond tears.

One thing that stands out is that you Atari 5200 and Super Nintendo do not match the name in the Theme Editor Template window. Keep it simple and consistant with what Theme Editor is referencing. Also makes it easier for someone to help if they are able.

Thank you Draco1962....

I will follow your suggestions in the first and second paragraph you wrote.
But I didn't understand your third paragraph:
"One thing that stands out is that you Atari 5200 and Super Nintendo do not match the name in the Theme Editor Template window. Keep it simple and consistent with what Theme Editor is referencing. Also makes it easier for someone to help if they are able "

I can't see that name difference you saw ...
Could you show me?

I've always selected Version 4 to ensure compatibility.

In the first image you have Atari 5200, but in the background for the emulator, you are pointing to THEME_BACKGROUND_ATARI 5200.

Change your image name to ATARI 5200.BAK and point to this your Atari 5200 background.

Excuse me...
But I can't understand ...
when i choose a picture to become a background the gamex renames the file chosen by me and creates a copy inside the MEDIA folder. This copied figure is renamed THEME_BACKGROUND_ (file name).

all the background screens of my old configuration look like this.

Are you asking me to rename the .PNG file to .BAK?

And forgive me, but I'm not able to see where you saw the name "Atari 5200" in the first  picture ...

Sorry again for the inconvenience ....

My apologies as I am not at my desktop to reference. Look in the second picture in the section labeled Templates.  You must follow the naming convention that is used by the system. Startbak.png is the name of the Start background file.  Likewise, Atari 5200 should be named Atari 5200BAK.png.

Forgive me
But I can't follow the path that passes me ...

There is something strange .... Look at the photo below:

The 1st photo shows the file called startbak with the image I chose as the background.
The 2nd photo shows this enlarged image (just to get a better idea of it.)
The 3rd photo shows what I see, the home screen when I open the gameex.

can you see??? The name is correct but still the background screen chosen by me does not appear.

I'm really sorry.
I am trying to understand what you are saying, but I am not able to do the steps you tell me to do ....

if you can do me step by step ...
As stupid as my request may be, it is the way.

Hi,

There is an INI setting used with the default GameEx theme which you copied over to your theme. This forces a single background.

AdvancedGFX=False

Make that true or excluded.

Thank you Tom.

That worked.

But unfortunately now when I switch between "full screen" and "window mode" the background screen that once belonged to one of my emulators changes to the background screen called "emubak".

I did a clean install of GameEx to try to fix this problem but it came back.
And I didn't make any significant changes to the settings. I just added the folders and paths. I'm not really lucky ...
photo 1: home screen.
photo 2: within the EMULATORS menu.
photo 3: Within the "3DO" menu.
photo 4: After exiting full screen mode (ALT + ENTER) the background screen shown in photo 3 disappears. Changing the background screen to emubak.png

I do not understand.
On my computer, simply changing the background screens of the home screen and the emulators causes this phenomenon.:(

Do you have different background screens in your settings? How do I have?

@Tom Speirs

The issue with the emubak.png file loading when exiting a game back to the emulator instead of the emulator's background file has been ongoing for a few years.

Below are a few threads related to the issue -

I can say that I have witnessed this behavior as well. I just overlook it.

In my specific case. The background screen changes due to the transition between full screen mode and window mode.
But interestingly, it only happens when I enter the menu of a specific system (master system or mega drive or super nintendo..etc ..).
When I press ALT + ENTER on the gameex home screen this error does not occur.
when I press ALT + ENTER within the emulators menu (without specifically entering any emulator) this error does not occur.

Only when I am on the game selection screen (from any of the configured systems) does this error occur.

it is not something that actually gets in the way of the front end....

But it makes me very angry....          (Error video just below)
