[RESOLVED] Model 2 forces 800x600/doesn't find some games

I wanted to integrate some model 2 games into my mame list, using the setup wizard.
It doesn't find some of the games (in the mame rom folder), like VF2, but does find others, which is odd.

Also, if I'm launching from Gameex, it will try to launch model 2 emulator but will change the fullscreen resolution back to 800x600 (instead of custom or 640x480) which will crash the emulator.
800x600 is not available on my cabinet as I'm using low res modes.

Any help to get this running would be apreciated.

Actually it's also not showing Virtua Fighter (1) in the list...both supported. Hmmmm.

edit: was missing the bios file for VF1. VF2 is beeing detected if I use the MAME instead of the Model 2 rom.

What is currently your command-line for Model 2?  I don't recall if it were hard coded.  Also does the EMULATOR.INI file show your correct resolution?

Please attach copies of your gameex.ini and log.txt files so we can review your configuration and PC details. Thanks!

I will check that. There is no commanding for model 2 set by me because I used the function to replace Mame for model 2 games with model 2 emulator.

Will do later!

These days with a fast PC I kind of think Model 2 emulator is obsolete now. Are all those games not supported in MAME yet? I know its certainly the case for Zinc. Those games run fine for me in MAME alone. I have not looked at specific model 2 support for some time. I know rom names are different and maybe they have changed again more since I last looked at it. it has been a while.

If there is still a need for this emulator I will certainly look.

None of the model 2 games run correct in Mame, independent of the computer you use. Vf2 starts but has graphical glitches. Mame is far from making model 2 work.

Okay, Ill take a look later but you may need an old set or specific roms for model 2. It used MAME roms from a long time ago and I believe the resolution issue has been addressd.

Ill look into it further when you provide the requested files.

I do have the model 2 ROMs and the newer Mame roms. Mame roms are being recognized but won't work with model 2 emulator so it will be nice if model 2 will not be redirected to the Mame rom folder.

I use the integrated support for Model 2 and 3 games as well using the Model 2 emulator and Supermodel respectively for the better handling of those ROMs.

ROM directories and resolutions are set in the emulator.ini file which should also be attached for review.

Can you advise if you have things working for this emulator outside of GameEx? This is critical. If it won't work outside of GameEx, then you will need to get that fixed first before this can be effectively triaged for any possible GameEx issues. +1 to @Tom Speirs's advice about using older ROMS due to the age of the Model 2 emulator.

It is working outside of gameex.

Gameex changes the rom folder in the emulator.ini automatically to the Mame rom folder. Also it starts model 2 definitely automatically in 800x600 although 640x480 is specified in the emulator.ini for fullscreen.

I will upload the files as soon as I'm home.

I know now what's happening. Gameex changes the paramter "Fullmode" in the emulator.ini from 0 (640x480) to 1 (800x600).

The log doesn't tell you anything about these steps, so MAYBE this is hardcoded? The best thing would be:

Use model 2 rompath instead of mame and read game data from there.
Don't change resolution :D

Found some workaround that at least kind off works.

So first I set emulator.ini to READ ONLY.

In gameex.ini I set "ValidateRoms" to false.

Now at least the games can boot BUT model 2 emulator requires a Alt+F4 shutdown instead of exit. Any ideas?

edit: forget the ValidateRoms setting. After updating the list, the games are gone. I need to have the modern mame roms there.

@Tom Speirs, you think you can help with this information? If I should try something, just let me know, or if you need further information.

I think Model 2 is well worth the effort, Mame will not be able to emulate 90% of the games good enough for a long time.

Yes, I know buddy. The missing games is no quick fix though. The emulator is old now and ROM names have obviously changed.

If this was quick and easy it would be done already.

GameEx supports any command line emulator, so you could easily set it up.

Please stop bugging buddy!

Only it's not so easy as the emulator will not exit. Neither with map keys nor advanced config do the trick with %{F4}. The emulator demands a alt f4 exit.

If there is anything you want to check let me know but I don't think this is rocket science so I don't think that I did something completely wrong...

Its just there are lots of people who have setup model 2 as an external emulator before including me. I've never heard anything weird about it in regards to exiting it.  That I can remember anyway.

The in built support does not do anything special to exit the emulator. The main issue here is the emulator has not been updated and the MAME rom names have changed, as far as I can guess? Im not sure what the best solution is for that right now, to avoid a lot of work, when I would like to make the best use of my time.

Your obviously looking for perfection so set it up as an emulator.

Im going to have to set it up myself now and see if there something weird about exiting but I never recall anything in the past.

Exactly, not rocket science at all so I am not sure what the issue is exiting.

PS: Do you have a problem with me? Hope not buddy.

Excuse me? I don't even know you. I'm just telling you that this emulator needs a alt f4  command to exit and I can't get it to work. Don't know why you would take that personal.

If I set the advanced config and press escape: window will minimize.

If I set map keys to true, same problem.

I was hoping for a solution to that.

PS

I do have model 2 now setup as it's own emulator. But the exiting problem stays.
