I canâ??t get Project 64 working. GameEx starts okay, I can browse through all the N64 roms but when I click on a game it looks like the emulator is going to start & then I receive the message â??failed to open file.â? Project 64 remains open & I can manually load a game, they just wonâ??t start up automatically via GameEx.

Hereâ??s my how itâ??s configured;

Yeah I had the same problem. For me it was a problem that I had quotes in my path. Project64 doesn't like them even though most other emulators require them. Make sure you can get N64 games to run from the command line first.

For newbies here is the best path for setting up new emulators:

1. get the emulator running and playing games from the menu system in the emulator

2. get it working from the command line with all your switches and options

3. add it to gameex with all the same options

Still doesnâ??t work. The problem might not be with GameEx though. It seems that the only way I can launch a n64 game is by opening a rom from within Project 64 itself. For example I right clicked on a rom, I then went to the â??open withâ?? option & chose to open it with Project 64. After doing this I received the same message that I got when trying to open via GameEx, namely; â??failed to open file.â?

This config works for me... Compare the two and maybe you'll find something I missed.

Does the emulator (when ran outside of Gamex) work with the roms? I'd be inclined to say that the & symbol may play havoc with the std issue path handling in prj64.

yep he spotted it. The & is a reserved character. I am surprised XP let you create a directory using it. To use an & you have to have the path quoted, which Project64 doesn't like. Change your directory name to PeterAndJay and you're all good.

Youâ??re right it was the â??&â?? in my account user name, I changed it and everything is working great. Thanks for your help; I would never have picked it.

Good stuff Dragon, wasn't 100% sure if that would have solved it but thought it was worth a try!
