Hi everybody,

two hours ago I received my key for gameex :D . Now that I'm finally a registered user I'm fooling around with all the new features and of course came across karaoke.

I'm absolutely new to this business so please forgive me any stupid question on this.

After a few minutes of googling I got hold of some *.kar files to load them with the karaoke module in Gameex. Although everything worked fine I was a bit disappointed as it was only a (crappy) midi-file I could hear.

Is this normal? Is the kar-fileformat associated with midifiles+lyrics?

As a naive person I expected a sound that is pretty close to the original sound of the song but of course with a computer soundcard playing midi you won't get into the mood  .

My question now is: Is all this normal for karaoke playback or are there any chances to get "high quality" sound files that come close to the original (probably mp3 format instead of midi).

Don't get me wrong I don't want you to post some potentially illegal stuff here, I just need an overview on the options I have and that you point me in the right direction to look for information... .

Many thanks,

nullus

Well if you where using Myth rather than GameEx you would be stuck with MIDI...how ever you are blessed with GameEx so you can use backups of your karaoke disks that are in MP3\CDG combinations.

I have yet to really play with the karaoke feature...tho I expect I will be in the future as I get my step-son into this...since his girlfriend is big into karaoke...and I'm sure he's up for winning some brownie points. ;)

Hi Nullus

I'm not sure about the .kar files as Ive never used them. The format I've been using, uses two files at once, a .cdg file and an mp3 file. The mp3 does the music which sounds just like the original CDG and the .cdg file shows the lyics as the song plays just like the original CDG. I'm not sure how the software syncs the two files but it works pretty well. Don't give up yet. And congratulations on being a "paid in full" GameEx subscriber.

Ahhh, thanks to you guys!

Now there comes some light to me...

For some VERY strange reason I thought that GameEx can only handle this type of doodle-doodle-midi-crap-kar-files, but with your help I found out that mp3+cdg works great with GameEx!!!

 I made a backup of my cdg-collection and tested it with GameEx....great!!!

I can't seem to get the karaoke feature to work. When I select a song. The screen turns balck then returns to the karaoke section in gameex. Any ideas? Codec? Player? Thx.

Well I fixed it. I needed the DirectX karaoke. Dl and installed and works fine. Any way to zip the mp3/cdg and still play them?

I'm not sure but I don't think so. This would be a good feature request if not. My karaoke folder seems so cluttered with two files for each CDG song.
