Its so dang nice to trade the toilet prolonging, life stealing, job destroyer that is an MMohRpeeGee. for some good ol emu action. Hell im not even sure if i can send this post w/o a 6 player Group/team/i.e 2 hours of looking (cause my static just split up >< ) .. kk No more of that sissy no frills nonsensa. Waiting on the Xarcade in the mail, it shipped and the god of mail says it shoup be here Monday .. Im sure there are 400 topics about .. make that 401 about this debate/comparison/post. But Now thats its to late to change the outcome of my purchase easily. ANYONE got any....., Points , Vs. Battles, Opininons, Praises and/or Pure Ordained Hatred Rants, about either one of these 2-player style arcade sticks (X-Arcade / HotRod, heck , SlikStic, etc..). They both seem nice. Basically I bought one after I got back into emus and found myself spending alot of time with this cool program(GameX). I went with the XAracde because , I do remember a friend getting one around 4-5 yrs ago that I admired and had fun with, way back when MAME was a wee 3500+ compatable feller. Also I like the fact I recently read that it can now work on most consoles,without TOOLS that is ^^ , via purchased Converter Adapters. Which are real CHEAP =D.. ....UMMM NO sir they are NOT CHEAP. I'll be lucky to get a 360 one if it makes it out. ((but they do give u a free one so when they send it You CAN really use it with one of your systems, man thats real nice of them >^^< Maybe one day they'll throw in some manure.. That is on pure asumption that you opted to select an adapter that fits one of your systems !!)) ok but it did just drop from 140 to 120 , so that is a good thing. Unless its due to the fact that the Directional Joy is being redone with a shaved carrot

X-Arcade / HotRod / SlikStick(Little outta my price range for the multi player styles)/ any other Classic Dual brands welcome too. Did I make the right choice with the Xarcade, or is the HotRod a Sin to be without. Cant believe i didnt take that second job and dragon punch with a SLIKStic , You tell me. From what I have read and seen they all look great. I just want to hear what the gameXers roc with. I kno theres a large interest surrounding size due to custom cabinets that apply to many lucky folks. I am just on a widescreen HDTV that needs a Dual, Classic feel Joy , where the size is not much of the matter. (( whoaa now, Im not saying MY size... LMAO, incrimination killed the single guy .. Seriously tho, Cabinet space limitations is one area I dont have to worry about in my current setup (My .. VS. Battle Enemies, couch Co-Pilots, chili dinner eating teamwork comrades) dont face our video game fortunes and failures in a cabinet. We just usually play console style, via the (Dont get up , just use the lazy man remote style MCE offspring.. THANKS GameEx. I've only really tried the X-Arcade dual (I do own one) and compared to most authentic arcade controls, IMO it's very good. It might need some calibration though to fit your specific taste. I want quick 8-way response, and by default, the X-Arcade dual will let you pull on the stick quite a bit before it 'clicks', eh... "sorta". This is easily fixed however, just screw open the bottom, then find the little black plastic that sits on the stick between the switches and turn that upside down. Now it should be somewhat faster. But it's all really a matter of taste.

Here's another tip though, tone down your use of slang and "humorus" ranting in your posts, and people will actually be able to read them through without wanting to be shot in the head.

Somewhere in there you bring up a good point....anyway, I seriously debated buying a ready made setup when I was building my cabinet, but decided against it in the end without really trying one. I'd like to hear people's opinions about the build your own vs. buy your own debate. Here are a few of my observed advantages/disadvantages:

I wanted an 8 button setup so I could have start/select and 6 action buttons, as well as coin buttons. From what I saw, the ready made options didn't offer the button setup I needed (the pic above has the two buttons below the 6, which seems like they would get in the way for fighting games). I picked an i-pac so that I could have the shift function and essentially have double the number of buttons if need be. Now I can have my normal buttons, plus reset, pause, menus, vol, etc with the same number of buttons. It's VERY nice feature and VERY easy to configure with the simple windows app that comes with an i-pac. Second, I was not sure how to integrate a ready made setup into my cabinet and have it look nice. If I had one to measure and place it wouldn't have been bad, but I haven't found these in a retail setting to look at. Anyone have construction experience with these? Also I believe the price was more for arcade sticks for some reason, but then my setup didn't end up being cheap. What are the price differences? Mine ended up being:

Ultimarc Mag-stick Plus (2) - $50

Ultimarc Buttons (20) - $30

Ultimarc I-pac (1) - $35

Wire, Wood, etc - approx $15

Total - $130 (priceless )

The greatest advantage of the ready made options seemed to be that they look REALLY clean and slick--and of course time saving, although it only took a couple hours to build mine (lots of planning though). Any other thoughts?

I have X-ARCADE and it is pretty good

I had to get the USB Adapter for it but it would "stick" (stuck going left or down or a punch button)until I reboot. It was siad I didnt have enough power from the keyboard which caused the problem

I also got an X-Arcade trackball...so I gutted the X-ARCADE and built a bigger console which also housed the trackball

THat was enought to get me to build a cab

Yeah , I thought Xarcade was prob just not that far off from its overall control response and classc feel as the Hot Rod has been written to have over the X. Maybe its a slight less authentic, but nonetheless it seemed to be one of those mentioned cons that the writeres had to delve deep in order to really try and Vs. battle these things. Havnt seen to many slik Vs. out there , Maybe due to the ,, heavy price tags on the ones past Fighter version, even tho this setup is still one of the, if not THE most expensive Dual of its kind. ( altho the space between the control areas is a way, waa WAY plus, Lessen u have that cute gally as your next challenger .) . and yes I heard she is currently being tracked in the Seoul underground birdseye/sidescroll shooter ( loser gets cattle branded ) Pit Meets.

The info on the calibration, and modification is a way plus, reminded me , I could prob fine tune this thing to work like or close to what I needed. Plus the dual syatem Xover still seems to be a really decent plus , cept , the price tags.

Xarcade came in, 3 days , US .. not bad at all for the shipping. Had to open her up 2 times in 30 mins tho ><

Once to fasten a loose board connection ( thank god twas the problem) that was keeping the P2 High Kick button from being recognized. This of course was essential for all the d3 hurricane kick closers the little ones had been dreaming about. Second , sadly to set the calibration as it was replied that i would probally have to in order to get a faster click response with the Joy stick. P1 kept sticking in the up position if I barely tapped it up. Everything else seems ok so far. Still need a good ol usb X360 pad w/ Xbcd on quick draw for those games out there that just say NO to keyboard mapped controllers. And dangit theres no excuse that redeems the fact that I deleted a 1000+ words from the first post. I know for a fact there would have been a flame engulfed suicide demonstration. I'm working on a Back 2 the futurish type time traveling theory and hope to be able to stop my self from deleting the 6 deleted chapters and maybe try out the HotRod instead of the X-arcade, just to see the difference in the 2 controllers and at the same time get a splash and a dash of sado-masochism. Xarcade usually packages their stuff pretty well. It should have been easy to fix. The design and construction is pretty clean...so you can "d3 hurricane kick close with your kids"

Calibration for faster click? I dont remember that option. SInce it is acting like a keyboard - for faster response just set typematic rate in Windows or in the BIOS

The sticking of up-down-left-right - was to me - because my keyboard power was not strong enough. So I bought the adapter. If you look at the construction of the joysticks underside, you'll see the mechanism that clicks the switches. The base sleeve is round which makes the Xarcade feel "loose" in a Betson joystick - they have a square sleeve. This makes the joystick more responsive. If you wanted to adjust the "feel" this is the palce to modify

Slikstik quad setup turned me on. But I couldn't afford to shell out $800.00 all at once. So I decided to build my own. I actually designed a control panel top that was modeled like the SlikStik quad one. Cost me $45.00 shipped. Nice! Came with the T-molding as well. So long ass story short, it took me 6 hours to design the bottom half of the control panel including painting and so forth. 5 hours to install the hardware, strip wires and program it. I use an IPAC4 which is the friggin best IMHO. (4) Happ 8 way sticks, (1) Happ 4 way stick, (50 some) buttons, (1) SlikStik tornade spinner, (1) Happ 3" trackball.

Amazing results - works just like a SlikStik quad for $300.00 less. ( sarcasm meant and applied)

Do you bill yourself for time? Well, you aren't doing jack with your life anyway so my answer is no! $300 dollars saved is $300 dollars saved PERIOD!

So since I was $300 richer - I order the Act-Labs guns.

Hmmm, that still left me $100.00 to play with ..... what to do what to do???

Well, I bought some authentic Lethal Enforcers gun holsters for $20.00. That's right $20! Right place right time. $80.00 left ..... The friggin SATA hard drives are just friggin hot! Bought (2) MadCat Hard Drive coolers for $30.00 total and mounted them on the drives. Really helps by the way I recommend those.

$30.oo left.....yeah I suppose I'd better buy a bunch of the American Lasergames off eBay. Sweet only $3.00 a game.....purchased (5) with shipping LEFT me $15.00. So because I was in such a good mood I took the wife and kid to McDonalds so I was broke again. Finally life was back to normal

Moral of the story is if you have the time, you have the WANT to learn you too can end up with a bunch more shit for your arcade rather than paying someone else to build it for you.

As a last note - I'll post pics of my arcade and the control panel wiring and so forth. "Wiring pick will be posted later" In the proper section tomorrow "9/15/06" so go check it out.
