sorry guys this post is kind of off topic but i feel i need to let the community see this for this is the ultimate horror that we hope does not happen when someone converts an arcade cabinet for use with MAME

http://web.archive.org/web/19990922104050/...larcade/dl.html

i saw this link and just about cried! why on earth would someone trash a very rare cabinet like this i would have figured it would be more value to someone restored to full working order than being hacked apart!!!! for use with MAME not that i have any problem with MAME i have a MAME cabinet myself i didnt post this to have people flame this guy but i did however post this just to show hoe easily something can be lost forever!!

PLEASE FOLKS! anyone building a Mame cabinet build from scratch or at least if your going to convert use a cabinet that isnt as scarce!!!!!!!!

i have posted this here today in hopes that all mame cabinets builders will take heed in thier choice of cabinet conversions!!

thanks all for your time!

hmm cuts both ways...if the guy hadn't converted to be his mame cab....it may have very well ended up in some land fill some where.

Ideally it would have been restored...but realistically...its better how it is, than buried.

I didn't realize that Dragon's Lair was a rare cab, but I guess I'm not surprised that it is... I scored an original NBA Jam cabinet for next to nothing and was able to pay for it 10x over by selling the marquee and CP art - even though the cab itself had really seen some hard times and the board was destroyed. I'm mutilating it as we speak.

When you're on a budget you take what you can get (the cab itself only cost me $35) - just be sure to carefully remove the salvageable parts you don't have any use for. People go nuts over that stuff on eBay.

Just some friendly advice. :D

Personally I don't understand this argument. He says he restored the cabinet, and removed the non-working guts. At least it was reused and not trashed and beaten up in some arcade where punk kids kick it and spill drinks on it....oh wait thats probably where it spend most of its life. It's living the good life now it a loving home where it's cared for and respected :)

even Dragons lair are a true Classic its old and some of the parts are hard to get and really pricy

if it wasent for Mame there would have been 80% of a chance (if not higher) it would have been trashed so call it recycle i guess :P

better to let it be a mame cabin than destroyed imho.
