Hiya.

My Attract Mode no longer works after updating to the new MAME version. Yes, I rebuilt my game list, yes it worked before and no I haven't changed anything (except the previously mentioned update and rebuild of the game list)

It will not start after XX minutes, and I can't launch it from the Other Apps menu. Any help would be much appreciated.

Also - if someone could help me get GameExtender working off my network that'd be a bonus. I have satellite internet and a wireless router and I'm not the best at the whole networking thing... I can tell you that my IP address is only a 1 week 'lease' and I had this working before somehow. Just a quick walk-thru would be pretty sweet.

Thanks y'all! :)

Hi Adultery-

First, go to PortForward.com

There is a whole section devoted to your plight.

http://portforward.com/networking/MAC-xp.htm

Change your DHCP to a static from the intructions, and then go into your control panel and enter in all the necessary info for IP.Gate/DNS. By giving yourself a static address, you will increase your overall speed, as the machines are not competing for the same address. Make sure to assign each machine a new address: i.e. 192.168.1.100

next 192.168.1.101

etc.

Alright. I thought I was losing my mind because, like I mentioned, I've been able to see what I'm playing on GameExtender before, but now...

According to this article I found, my satellite internet provider will not allow me to access the DNS server for some reason. I have to purchase a 'pro' account to be able to port forward. Reason #1000000000 to NOT get HughesNet on your computer... unless that's the only option you have (which is my situation)

Did I mention the 175Mb download cap?

Anyways... Without an option to get my computers on the network to use a Static IP, am I more or less screwed?

:D Did you go through the steps from PortForward?? If so, are you still not able to get a static?? I have a DHCP from Verizon, but used Port Forwarding to "cheat," and give myself a static so I can set up servers, share files, and speed up my internal network...lemme know!

Just went with 107 and my attract mode doesn't work anymore in GameEx either. Nor do the bezels for vertical games. I haven't had time to try it much yet, but "initial testing" is what I wanted to share with ya'll. ;)

I must confess that after updating to 107 my attract mode actually started working properly! before it'd go black, look as it's going to start the mame game then drop back into gamex.

Now it's working fine! I must admit I've used both the vanilla compile of mame and then the pentium pro version. I've done the same as you emph, updated my roms, updated mame install, updated list inside gamex. I probably needed to update my list to get it working, but no problems here 'fraid emph. Though I've not tested the 'vert game bevels.

/edit/ double posted almost.

Well, from what I gathered on ProtForward, I took all the steps I could to assign a static IP through my router (I think) and for some reason, even with all my data in place for my router and my Network card (DNS, Default Gateway, etc) I can't get it to work. Am I just missing something? - including access the internet. I'm sure my DNS is correct.

The link you sent me was pointing out how to get my Physical MAC Address but I'd already known how to do that. Maybe I'm just not seeing something here...

Your IP (like mine) assigns a DHCP so I guess we're in the same boat - except my modem (DW7000) has an internal router which will not allow me to forward any ports. Does that sound like it makes sense?

Thanks in advance for your help. :)

As for attract mode - I have the same problem on my cabinet and my PC. Still not working... Others having the same problem as well?

TX: Did you change a setting somewhere to make that start working? *perplexed*

Any reason why people use/prefer "mame" to "mame32" or any other version of mame. I've had more troubles with mame then I've had with mame32.

I've just always used MAME, since MAME32 wasn't around when I first got into emulating cabs. No real reason, matter of fact I often recommend MAME32 to people over the MAME build. I just prefer the command line interface I suppose.

Ugh, it's stopped workin now! The mame 107 install decodes the rom and then it drops out to gamex!

Should have done more testing before I opened my big mouth!

Not changed a single thing, simply shutdowns at the end of day etc.

Tom, ol buddy ol pal...

Still no fix for this? Just curious since one of my favorite GameEx features is the attract mode. It really shows people what my cab is capable of.

Not trying to be pushy or anything. :)

Here, Here. Tom does indeed rock.

A footnote to this problem, if some people are still having problems with 107 & gamex 6.51 try altering the settings within the attract mode config page. I was still having problems still with 107 & 6.51 then I altered some of the settings there and now it works 100% fine.

What did you change? The time it starts? The mix of videos vs games?

I am really interested in what you did...please share
