Exit menu hidden, yet still works as expected?

When I exit pinballx, to cancel (default), return to desktop (Right flipper x1) or shut down the cab (Right flipper x2), the menu does not appear on screen, yet I can still select the option I want and press the launch button to activate that option.

How can I show the menu again??   This happened many versions ago and every upgrade to PinballX does not restore the visual.   

I recall seeing a post about it, but for life of me cannot find it again. Thoughts?  And thanks!!
