"Allow game launch?" Steam Issue Starting Tables

Stexe

Recommended Posts

When I try to run a game on Steam through PinballX I get a warning error saying "Allow game launch?" which is hidden behind other windows. It does this because PinballX attempts to launch a Steam file with specific launch options parameters in order to load a specific table.

Is there any way to disable this and always allow the game to launch? I've tried what I've found online including changing compatibility properties to have it always run as an Admin, reinstalling the game, reinstalling Steam, and more. Nothing has worked though.

Any idea what to do?

I've never had this until this week and I have changed nothing so I wonder if it's a Windows update

Yeah, never had it either until now. I've seen other people had issues with it in the past but I suspect it will plague a lot of people soon.

I wonder if it was due to a Steam update too? I contacted Steam to see if there was a way to disable it in-client (which as of writing I do not believe there is).

yep, I just started getting this.

I can launch Pinball FX2 just fine when I don't use the table parameters, but when it launches a specific table it gets this popup (which doesn't even come to the front, so you can't get ti it easily).

Could try creating a Windows shortcut to launch the game and set the compatibility for the shortcut to run as administrator.

Or install Steam outside of protected paths like C:\Program Files. For example, I use C:\Games\Steam

Tried the first and I'm about to try the second once all the files transfer. Although I'll have to change a ton of path commands which will make it super annoying.

EDIT: Yep, even moving the files didn't work.

Anyone else have any success yet?

I can launch FX2 with no problems. I'm running PBX 2.29 still and Windows 10 Pro build 14393.1593

When Steam fires up I am getting the Lavasoft DLL incompatibility error. I haven't fixed that yet.

My cab hasn't been updated to the Founders version yet.

What versions are you guys running?

I personally think the Steam platform sucks. It has been taking forever to download updates lately. Sometimes 5 hours to overnight. WTF?!!!

I've been on Windows 7 and now Windows 10 I've never had that error so I don't know what that is I'm assuming you've
 tried Google and as far as, Steam updates they usually take like five minutes or so as something the error you
 are getting problem

Hello, I built a 3 screen cab for myself and just started taking time setting up fx2 tables.  I have double checked the parameters for starting fx2 in the pinball x settings and all looks correct.  I then added a table in game manager that matches the table filename within fx2 directory. I then try to launch that table and says GAME NOT FOUND. Can't find file specified.\

Here is some info...

[PinballFX2]
Enabled=True
WorkingPath=D:\Steam
Executable=Steam.exe
Parameters=-applaunch 226980 [TABLEFILE]
Process=Pinball FX2.exe
Rotate=False
WaitFor=-1

I don't have steam on my C drive but a separate D drive along with fx2

You looking to do direct table launch? As long as you have the xml file or tables named properly in game manager I'd suggest changing your working path to the folder the contains the fx2 exe, and the executable use the actual fx2 exe, works for me and mine is also in a random directory

Ok that helped, it now launched  and got a little further into fx2 saying steam client isn't running when it is clearly running. Also see a pop up window from steam saying Pinball fx2 is attempting to launch with the optional parameters shown below.

"Alien Isolation"

If you did not request this launch or do not understand these options, select cancel.

When I run it like this I get the same thing.  Window pops up saying steam client isn't running.

[PinballFX2]
Enabled=True
WorkingPath=D:\Steam\SteamApps\common\Pinball FX2
Executable=Pinball FX2.exe
Parameters=-applaunch 226980 "[TABLEFILE]"
Process=Pinball FX2.exe
Rotate=False
WaitFor=-1

-

When I set it like this it works until 2 days a go now I get that error like The one in my other post

[PinballFX2]
Enabled=True
WorkingPath=D:\Steam
Executable=Steam.exe
Parameters=-applaunch 226980 "[TABLEFILE]"
Process=Pinball FX2.exe
Rotate=False
WaitFor=15

Is it possible that there are changes made by Steam due to the upcoming release of Pinball Fx3?

No. It is most likely due to some players accidentally running their games with weird launch options without knowing about it and then complaining that the game is messed up. Now it won't run a game with special launch options without confirmation.

It is fine, I just wish there was an option to turn it off in the settings or click "never show this prompt again" or something.

I originally had it following instructions in pinball x what it was suppose to be and didn't work at all but I got a little further when ruebsy suggested go directly to pinballfx2. Now I get a fx2 window popup saying steam client isn't running when it is. I'm not sure what else to do.  I just got fx2 yesterday and some tables so I could start using my cabinet sooner because visual pinball and future look a little too involved for me right now on my 3 screen setup. This is a bummer.

I think it is time to ask if you will attach copies of your pinballx.ini and log.txt files (Please, DO NOT copy & paste in your reply). Thanks!

I think it is related to Steam and an update from that. Apparently it is happening to a lot of users now after the release of ARK: Survival Evolved.

I contacted support to see if they could come up with a solution or maybe pass it up for an option in the settings to disable it. But I've yet to get a solid answer.
