Things like that are usually detected automatically during boot up each time.  I would imagine if the hardware is compatible it should work.  Like, I doubt the Raspberry Pi is capable of such a thing other than running a wire to the actual exposed reset pad on the circuit board.  If you're using a standard PC mobo, it's probably down to something like the capabilities of the OS.  I know on my PC, it was a jumper I had to switch from OFF to ON, then it worked out of the box via hardware.  I don't imagine something like that being restricted due to Linux.

Probably some command like "sudo wake up you lazy somb!tch" or something like that. 

More likely it will be a bios change if the mobo bios supports it.
