I wanted to report an issue when browsing my Pinball FX2 tables. I have both back glass and playfield videos going off at the same time while browsing. Sometimes the videos don't load but I can still browse the wheel. Sometimes the screen goes black and other times PBX can freeze.

What I tracked down as the cause is that  my Backglass videos are in .MP4 format and 3/4 of my playfield videos are .f4v. When I removed the .f4v videos I didn't have any issues. I will look for a program to convert my .f4v to .mp4 to confirm. Has anyone else seen this? I assume PBX and Lava Codec are having a hard time trying to play both file formats at the same time?

@bent98 I moved this thread to the General forum from the PinballX Media Projects forum. Please post troubleshooting requests here.

Thanks !

You may just want to reboot and/or reinstall PinballX again prior to any formal troubleshooting.

I would start troubleshooting by backing out all FX2 backglass videos. Do you get the default image when you scroll through? Does it still crash?

Are you sure that your database file is error free? This is not easy to check sometimes, but an xml with errors will crash PinballX. If PinballX always crashes on the same title then it is likely an xml error.

Introduce one change at a time to isolate on your problem media. What happens if you introduce just backglass images?

Did you generate the videos yourself? Did you get them from the FTP or did you get them from some other source? Do they play correctly using a player outside of PinballX? Have you tried an alternate source? What's on the FTP is just shit people copy up. Not saying that it is bad quality but I don't think anything is checked so it is always a good idea to try until you find something that works for you. I never use Game Manager. I like to see what all is available and choose the alternative that I like best. I usually generate my own media.

Also, you have to consider sources for your playfield videos. In other words, open6l did a bunch of videos initially and they are good quality but really huge in size. If you are using them in combination with your chosen backglass videos that may cause some issues especially if your system is not tuned too well, has a lot of other processes you don't really need running in the background that is eating up resources that could be used for PinballX.

I don't have a real DMD installed so I don't know if that introduces trouble.

I don't have a short answer. Just displaying Pinball FX2 videos on attract mode has not been an issue for me. I don't believe that PinballX itself is buggy in this regard. Seems like we would have heard a lot more about this if there were bugs. So, it will take a systematic process to figure out hat is happening on your end.

I tracked down this issue on this one.

I had hardware acceleration set to Nvidia since I have a gtx 980Ti. Apparently this caused issues with backglass videos loading slow and randomily crashing PBX. Enclosed is a screenshot of what it supposed to look like.
