Hello,

I am trying to run a ROM using Model 2 version 1.1a. The ROM seems to load but the screen is black except for some text that says "Sound Initialize..." and it just stays that way until I exit out and then it takes me back to GameEx. Does anyone know how to fix this? I'm attaching my log and ini files after trying to run the ROM.

Not sure what is going on with the spoiler mask. Could you attach your gameex.ini and log.txt files in reply, please? Thanks!

Did I attach the files correctly for you?

You did, yes, thanks! Please be aware though that while we strive to help as quick as possible, we are human and not everyone is an expert at everything. Model 2 issues are a specialist subject and historically have required somewhat niche knowledge to troubleshoot. Please be patient - someone will help you soon i'm sure :)

@imek I can see the sound initialization screen that you're seeing right at the beginning of the game (HOTD). Inmy setup it flashes quickly then enters the game. It sounds like yours is failing for some reason. To simplify things, we want to get it working outside of GameEx first:

1) Locate the Model 2 emulator folder and edit "EMULATOR.ini" in notepad.

  • Near the top is a section for you roms directory. Mine looks like this. Dir1=G:\Games\M.A.M.E\Emulator\0.161 ROMs & CHDs Fullset. Change that to match yours, if it isn't already correct. GameEx should have done this for you automatically. Visually confirm that "hotd.zip" is in that folder.

2) While your in the config, you may as well follow instructions in this this video:

3) Confirm your game is working outside of GE. Re-enter the setup Wizard and confirm your roms directory is the same as you changed it to in step 1 above. ***EDIT: GameEx will look in the integrated Mame rompath for the model 2 supported games. So you need to make sure a copy of it is there as well as where you told Model 2 to look. I doubt that GameEx rewrites models 2's "EMULATOR.ini" directory with your mame rompath, usually GE is not that invasive, but probably parses the rompath in the command line arguments when launching model 2. Still, you should keep your mame roms and model 2 roms in the same folder and tell both model 2 and gameex (via mame rompath) to look at the same rompath.*** Exit the wizard and open GameEx. Try again to load the game and post back your results, include the Log and INI.

I adjusted the settings as described in the video. Also, the game is not working outside GameEx either. It has the same problem. I tried running it in GameEx again as well and then I attached the ini and log files.

I notice 2 problems with your config:

  1. You have Show Model 2 set to no. Change that to yes.
  2. Remove hotd from your don't filter these roms field.

Update mame list. Open model 2 games list which will appear on the integrated mame menu, scroll down to house of the dead and open it from there (this will be the link made by GameEx to the game for Model 2, instead of the spoof created by the don't filter these roms field). Hopefully that will fix the issue.

This doesn't explain why model 2 isn't working outside of GameEx. The only reasons I can think of are that:

  1. You didn't get the roms path into the "Emulators.ini" correctly. If it is not already, try placing hotd.zip into your mame's rom folder as that is where gameex will tell model 2 to look for it. You could also try placing hotd.zip in c:\model2\roms (create it), then removing the ; before "c:\model2\roms" in model 2's "EMULATORS.ini". This is the simplest rompath and is default.
  2. Otherwise, there is something wrong with your rom or...
  3. there is something wrong with your computer

I just got this emulator working myself today (no sound error though...sorry..).

As long as the rom path is set properly in the Emulators.ini, you should be able to confirm hotd is a valid rom outside GameEx by double-clicking the model 2 executable (Emulator.exe). In the Emulator dropdown, click Load Rom. Then look for House of the Dead and double click it.

And by the way, it looks like the gamelist Model 2 shows are all of their supported games, whether you have the files or not.

I am a little confused here is what it says my rompath is inside the "Emulators.ini" file

Dir1=C:\Emulators\MAMEUI64_0.139_29-07-2010\MAMEUI64_0.139_29-07-2010 Extracted\roms
;Dir1=c:\Model2\roms

What is the ;Dir1=c:\Model2\roms? isn't one path enough? should I delete this?

I am attaching the "Emulators.ini" file

Yeah, the Model 2 emualtor is a little different as far as how it handles rom paths. For their ini file, the semi-colon represents what is called a Remark. When you have a remark on a line, the emulator will completely ignore any information on the line (until it comes to a new line/carriage return). Most of the time, remarks are used to give people information on how to use various parts of the file. In this case, that line is remarked out becasue they just wanted to give an example of what a rom path might look like.

You can delete the line that says ;Dir1=c:\Model2\roms if it makes that portion of the ini file easier to understand for you.

I think there must be something wrong with the rom like RIP Felix says. Because the rom path is correct. I'll try a different one and then upload my ini and log file.

Glad you got it sorted, now you just need to get HOTD2 working in Dolphin...lol.

Crazy how this hobby always has another game, another emulator to learn and setup, and so on.
