Maximum of files

Whats the maximum of files/roms that you can put in a list?

I've got a hugh c64 folder (-+ 40000 roms) but it seems impossible to it load up; it always results in an error:

Other lists with +- 12000 files loads up fine..

What can I do to resolve this?
