Exiting a game takes you straight to desktop ( help )!

Hi Folks,

This is my first post so please be gentle, thanks! I might have overlooked this topic but don't know where to look. Just wondering how to stop Pinball X game menu from going direct to the desktop when Esc is pressed. When exiting a game, you normally would end up at the menu to select another game, however my setup just skips that entirely and goes main Windows desktop screen. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Oh ok, I guess I skipped some info. Well, basically I select a game from the Pinball X main game menu, it will take me to that game table. Be it Future Pinball or Visual Pinball which will load fine ( aside from some off centered back glass images ). Then when I hit esc to get out of that game, it should take me to the game select menu. But instead takes me directly to Windows desktop. I'm using Windows 7 64bit if that makes any difference.

We will need copies of your pinballx.ini and log.txt files (the log.txt file right after the issue occurs). Click on the PinballX How to ask for help link in my signature for instructions on how to locate the files and submit them for us to review.

It will help having the log and ini file to confirm what is happening. When it exits to the desktop is PinballX no longer running?

Ok will do next chance I get but to answer your question, yes PinballX is still running. It is minimized in the shortcut bar at the bottom.

Hi again,

Sorry for being absent, family matters to attend to. So if anyone would kindly bear with me for a sec, I'd like to recap what's happening. So initially, the issue I was having was that when exiting a FP table (esc) Pinball X would completely exit to Windows desktop instead of returning to the wheel menus to select a different table. Now for some reason, I am also not able to see the playfield on the main display ( display 1). I have attached the log and .ini files so you guys can check out my setup. Any insight would be great, thanks!

According to the ini you have Quit (PinballX) and Exit Emulator both set to Escape. My suggestion would be for you to change Exit Emulator to a different key. I use Q. Then you would need to remember to click on Q to exit FP back to PinballX instead of Esc.

Note: I know that Q is supposed to bring up the BAM menu, but I always configure FP outside of PinballX. It's just been a habit for me to assign Q to 'quit'.

Thank you for your suggestion and I've tried that without luck. So I ended up un-installing Pinball X and then re-installing. Somehow that worked for the exiting situation which no longer is a problem. However, as I mentioned earlier there seems to be another issue which I don't know if I should start another topic or not. What's happening now is the FP playfield screen is not visible . I hear the background sounds and music as well as all the game sounds but can't see the table. Fyi, I have enabled MAME to run in Pinball X and those games show up fine when launched, but not FP tables. I actually have 2 stations setup, 1 at home and 1 at my work office. I'm now at home but having the same issue as the one at my office ( no playfield visible ). Please advise!

Hmm, don't know. You might try walking back some of the video rendering options in FP. If you set Texture Filtering to Trilinear then based on my experience you definitely need to switch to Bilinear. Try using Medium (Default) preset or using a lower resolution just to test.

If you are using Aero try turning it off. Or if you are not using Aero then try turning it on.

It's kinda one of those things in which Google is your friend.  It's a Windows feature that (among other things) makes your open windows look "fancy".  You can trun it off by changing from an Aero enabled theme to a basic theme.  Just right click on an open area of your desktop and select Personalize.  Then you'll see two varieties of themes Aero Themes and Basic and High Contrast Themes.  If you change to one of the latter, it amounts to disabling Aero.  Good luck man!

Thanks for everyone's input. I finally got the exiting issue resolved. I found another thread on this forum regarding the same problem and followed their setup and all is good again! Basically, I needed to add "STAYINRAM" at the parameters tab in the Pinball X setup screen for FP. It worked for the other guy and for me as well.
