I searched through the forums about games being filtered from the GameEX frontend, and there is always a suggestion to just turn off filtering. I actually like the vast majority of what is being filtered, but I noticed last night that even the good old "Pac Man" programs are missing from my game list, although they are listed and work fine from the MAME32 frontend.

Is there a slight "tweek" to the delivered filter list that will let this one show through?

TIA

It sounds to me like you have clones filtered out in GameEx. You see, Pac-Man is a clone of Puckman.

You need to enable clones, then update your gamelist. Or, you could play Puckman instead.

The reason that Pac-Man was made for non-japanese countries is the fact that the P in Puckman easily could be altered to F, rendering a new game title on the cabinet not suitable for minors. ;)

Actually, I think GameEx can handle this particular situation through the config. I came across the same issue and solved it as follows.

In 'Advanced MAME' config section:

1. Leave 'Set No Clones' at 'I dont want clones'

2. Don't Filter These ROMS - add the ROM pacman to the list (and any other clones to explicitly include, separated by a semi-colon).

3. Excluded ROMS - add the ROM puckman to the list (and any others to explicitly exclude, separated by a semi-colon).

This will exclude all clones except any listed in 'Don't Filter These ROMS' *AND* exclude ROMS (clones or otherwise) that are listed in 'Excluded ROMS'. Hence you'll see pacman instead of puckman!

Be sure to update your gamelist to see the change...

Shaun,

I will try this tonight when I get home. I checked my configuration last night, and I already had checked "I want clones" and the Pacman games were not showing up, so I think you are probably on to something with your suggestion. Thanks to everyone that posted, I will report back tomorrow with my progress.

This is a good tip since I was trying to figure out why pacman was gone as well after filtering clones (faq material?)
