I have completed my installation of MAMEUI64 0.158 and I am using B2K24's mame.xml file which I modified to enable all games to show. Attached are my PinballX.ini, log.txt and MAME.xml files:

Whenever I attempt to play a game, the screen goes black as if about to load, then comes back to the PinballX main. I am not sure how to resolve and any assistance will be much appreciated.

P.S. I have confirmed that this is a valid ROM set and the MAMEUI64.exe works fine in my GameEx setup.

I just saw and noticed this thread. I hope I can be of some help.

First I must ask why you're using MAMEUI and not official command line version of MAME since PinballX is your Front-end so you wouldn't need the UI part of it.

I also try and tell people to not have such exotic paths and try to stick with defaults as much as possible (it all takes the same amount of disk space possible)

My mame.ini has this for rompath J:\MAME ROMs;J:\MAME CHDs;J:\SOFTWARE LIST ROMS;J:\MESS CHDs;I:\MESS CHDs

My MAME root folder is J:\MAME

MAMEUI is the version I have installed on my HTPC running GameEx so I went with what I know works there. As for the paths, that really shouldn't matter as the ROMs are only 2 or 3 folders deep.

I tried a command line version and still same results. I have a compiled command line version and ROMs at my disposal that is more current that I can try later tonight or this weekend.

I believe I've found the problem. In your PinballX.ini you have this *Executable=mame64.exe -nowindow -joy -skip_gameinfo* I added that to mine and games don't work anymore. Try changing it to *Executable=mame64.exe*

I gave it a go and also made some other changes but to no avail. Here are my updated log.txt, pinballx.ini, and mame.xml files.

@B2k24 - I am not sure how many games are in the mame.xml, but I weeded out all of the mature, puzzle, and trivia games I could find to pare it down a bit. Personal preferences don't ya know. B)

Follow the instructions as I initially posted for MAME support when I announced it and you will be okay. Specifically the part about using a dummy rom folder. Taat is your issue. If you look at the log it is extracting your rom. You need to specify a dummy table path so I doesn't do that.

Posted

Will give that a go. Setting up within PinballX is different than GameEx in so many little ways.

Posted

The games will now load after creating a dummy path. Unfortunately the buttons are not working and only about 6 games are showing up. A little more work to do to get it all sorted. Thanks for the reminder, Tom.

Its not GameEx, it only lists games you add to the database. With the included list that I created, yep that's just about all of anything decent that runs on normal pincab. You also need to press Tab in MAME to configure the controls.

As I am quickly learning! Some things I like better. Getting a handle on the differences between the two will take a little time.

My XML has 865 games in it. Your attachment has only 11 games in it FYI

Yeah, noticed that. So no problems after I loaded the correct file. I will need to find a way to disable the plunger input in MAME as it causes scrolling through the options when hitting tab.

I'm hoping to clean mine up and remove the few dupes that are in there, but it's incredibly boring work to do that. Someday though.

I agree. I have cut yours down considerably by weeding out all the sports, trivia, mature games. Since these will be on a pincab, there will be some others that will need to be eliminated if they have strict joystick requirements for movement that can't easily be accomodated by the side buttons. Getting MAME running is not my highest priority for the cab as I am more interested in pinball. But the experience is helpful for me to be able to possibly help someone else in the future.
