I thought I had Steam all sorted out until I went to play Zen Pinball last night and discovered that games load fine but then within a minute of the game loading, the game exits back out to GameEx. I literally got to the pinball table selection screen and it was as if someone pressed the exit button on my cab.

I'm sure someone else must have had this problem before me, any tips?

Hi Maikerbushi,

Usually at this point i would mention Launchers, and Advanced Configs, but you specifically mention "Zen Pinball" and Steam.

As far as i am aware there is only Pinball FX2 on Steam, correct? Is this what you mean?

If not, and all Steam games are behaving badly i would suggest that either you have some conflicting settings between GameEx and the Steam Client, or permissions are wrong somewhere (on an OS level).

If you really do mean Pinball FX2 and Steam, then that is a whole other beast. It's actually one of the most troublesome games to get working in both GameEx and PinballX! It's not either program's fault, but how Zen decided to go about things. There are no commands to launch the tables, the launcher itself is a nightmare to navigate using scripts (it changes so frequently that any attempt to make it work is rendered useless within days/weeks).

That's not to mention it hasn't been done, but a little clarification on what you are trying to achieve will go a long way :)

Actually, PinballX launches the Steam version of Pinball FX2 via integrated support without the need for scripts for a few versions now.

If launching via GameEx and having a problem we will need to see the gameex.ini and log.txt files after the behavior reported.

I wasn't aware of this. Appologies!

No biggie. I have had PinballX setup with Pinball FX2 for quite a while before and after Tom added support. I am by no means a PinballX guru, though. Just wanted the experience with the program and it is worth getting to know.

I meant Pinball FX by Zen, sorry about that. The thing is it launches fine, I can even select a table and it loads if I'm quick enough but then it quickly exits. This isn't exclusive to Pinball FX, it also happens with all the others (Super Meat Boy, SSF4, Another World, Divekick + any other cab friendly games).

You will want to provide your gameex.ini and log.txt file from right after that happens. No way we can start troubleshooting without them. Thanks!

I can't duplicate the issue with Pinball FX2. I was thinking that with the switch to invoking each table independently it might have introduced the need for a wrapper, but that doesn't seem to be the case. I'll be curious to see the logs and runitgame.bat as well to see if we can spot an incongruity.

Interestingly enough I can duplicate the issue with Super Meat Boy. I don't think it's an issue with GameEx though. If you run the game from the runitgame.bat the same thing happens. I'm wondering if it's not a bug that's been introduced within Super Meat Boy itself preventing it from launching successfully from the command line. This post may shed some light on a potential fix. I may have a play with that to see if it might get it running again. ... Or I may not. That game drives me right up the wall. ^_^
