Hey folks! I'm not sure if you've seen this yet, but it has certainly been fun to play with. It is a modified MAME exe that works with VirtualDub to create MAME attract vids. Has options to create vids for your entire library and can also automatically detect the attract sequence in the games for hands-off creation. Great quality/small files if you've played with video encoding before. I little frustrating at first, but give it a try.

Tom, I don't know where you find this stuff ;)  Not only is Crashtest down, so is EmuFrance.  :(

Hi David,

Did you try contacting emu-france. Should I try?

I AM keen to get these available. GameEx is awesome using the MNG videos. Really awesome!

I can assure you that you and others are really missing out on this.

I could mail you a DVD with what I have, what do you think?

Tom, I found the Emu-France torrent, but after a week of trying it never even started to download anything, so I shut it off.

I really feel I am missing out on this "feature" because I can't find the videos. I did see that "tool" mentioned by WTB, but after reading a little about it I felt it was more effort than I was willing/able to put forth to create them myself. Maybe the newest version is better than the one I read about a couple months ago.

Tom if you want to drop the DVD in the post I could try to make it available to others via FTP. If you have a fast upstream I could give you an FTP account and you could send it to me pretty quickly that way (I have 1.5M downstream/incoming). I might be able to host some smaller files for you as well, but my upstream is limited to 384k, and it's not 100% uptime, but perhaps could be a good mirror.

I noted in the 3.61 thread that you might be able to recompress them smaller with 7z or split them into more manageable chunks. Just a thought.

Happy to help out however I can.

I have been trying to get the Video's without any luck. Not sure if the problem is Bit Torrent, my firewall or my provider. I tinkered around for a few hours but gave up and don't really feel like messing with it anymore.

Would any kind soul be willing to burn it on a DVD? I would happily pay someone for the materials, postage and something fair for their trouble/time.

I don't really want to become a DVD burning service but perhaps if someone burns it for me, I could burn it for the next person who in turn could burn it for someone else and so on. I don't know perhaps that's a bad idea, just a thought. I assume it's okay to distribute by DVD though since it's being distributed online.

I have the Original Bit Torrent and .mng Files that I downloaded awhile back. However with the newer version of GameEx I can't get them to display.

I am running Mame 0.95 Roms Set on a Mame Cmd Line 0.95.

When I downloaded the set provided by Tom the current version was 0.91.

Not sure what to do, is there a reason why the files will not work, i.e. when an update is published to MAME the .mng files need updating?

In the config file for GameEx I have SNAPS path set they work fine. Then I go and set the Video Snap path for the .mng images. When I run GameEx I have only a black screen (where the snaps should be located).

I am willing to share but need to make sure my set still works

I have FTP server space and will be glad to post my video .mng files in a zip for everyone to download (well untill my monthly download limit is reached).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I personally cant think of any reason why they would not work. They work fine for me with the latest version of GameEx. You say they used to work, perhaps you could give a bit more detail about exectly what has changed on your system?

Currently I got everything to work except the Videos.

I have a folder in the root of Mame. i.e.:

Mame/VIDEO

Mame/VIDEO/title

Mame/VIDEO/ingame

I have tried to set the configuration menu to both the title and ingame folder and neither work.

When I set it up (it has worked in the past) and I run GameEx, and start scrolling games, most games show a black screen (i.e. where the snap shows goes to a black image), some will show the static snap image but most the time it goes black. The screens do change shape according to the .mng they are trying to load so it would appear.

It would seem as if I am lacking a codec or some driver, or perhaps I did something wrong in the GameEx config setup...

As always any help will be appreciated.

Other than that everything is working fine and I really appreciate your efforts at creating the best MAME Frontend.

Thanks Again,

Pat

Hi Pat,

Can you go into the configuration, tweaks/performance and take a look at the load snap on thread setting. Change this to Load Snap immediatly (no thread).

Let me know if that was the problem.

Another thing to try if that was not it is delete all the DLL files in the GameEx directory (but dont delete your settings etc), then reinstall GameEx.

Try those two things and let us know.

If that did not fix it please post your log and GameEx.ini file.

Thanks,

Tom

Well I tried both and no luck. Here is my log file, I will have to do another post as it will not allow me to upload my gmaex.ini on this post as well.

Here is the GameEx.Ini

One other issue found, when playing let's say... Centipede, the my analog Joystic is having a difficult time getting back to dead zero, so it has an effect on the track ball (I am using all Ultimarc I-Pac, O-Pac, and A-Pac) until I figure out how to get the track bal back to cneter i.e. better springs, I disabled it under the Mame.Ini file, when I run Mame Cmd line it works fine, it is disbaled. When running GameEx I disabled it as well, but it remains enabled? Any help while looking at my files on that would be appreciated as well.

Here is the other file you requested.

PS: Check your bank I am tossing a few bones your way for your help and great product.

Tom have you any idea?

Pat

On the MNG videos, No not yet, its nothing simple. I am going to produce a debug version for you as soon as I have the time..

For the josytick have you checkd the MAME CMD line options in gameEx? It may be enabling the Joystick on the command line, which overides MAME.ini

In my Mame.Ini file I turned flightstick off, when I try to do it in GameEx, it has no effect and always turns the flight stick back on.

As for the Video let me know when you might have something that works. Is anyone else having the same video problems?

Sorry for the delay:

Please replace GameEx.exe with the debug version I just uploaded, then run then post or email me the log (with MNG's not playing)
