Hi guys,

I'm experiencing a weird issue in which my Emumovies video snaps are only playing for some of my emulators. Over the past month I've been setting up a new computer for a home arcade; the MAME, NES, and SNES were set up without a hitch (meaning that video snaps and other assets are being displayed properly). When I started configuring my Gameboy and Gameboy Color assets, I noticed that the video snaps for these two systems will not play in GameEx whatsoever; the other assets have no issues. Even the renamed system intro movies that I placed in the them's LOGO folder won't play for GB and GBC but they will play for MAME, NES, and SNES. Also, my ROM and asset files all share the same filenames.

Help!

Please provide a copy of your log.txt file and provide some more examples of the ROM names and the media file names.

To be honest, I think we will need to see copies of your emulator config file (click on the GameEx How to Ask for Help link in my signature on how to obtain) for these systems.

In your log.txt file this stood out to me:

14:02:10.9 8/30/2015: Open: Failed Opening Video: c:\gameex\themes\blue neon lcd 1920 x 1080\media\\logos\_handheld__nintendo_game_boy.mp4

Notice next to logos there are two \\ in the path. There should be only one \. Something is not right in your emulator configs but won't know for certain without them.

Ah I see. Thanks for pointing that out. I'll get you the config files shortly.

I was looking this over as well and while I do not want to interrupt Draco's excellent assistance...

...I did notice that you have a folder named 'assests'...and while I don't THINK this is a cause of your issue (unless the folder name does not match), I do think you meant to name it 'assets'. You may consider correcting that sooner than later.

Good catch...I'll take look at that!

I spent a good 2 hours today trying to debug this myself with no luck. I can't figure out what GameEx has against my GB and GBC video snaps [emoji53]

There are a number of things that can potentially impact this, first being that the names and or paths do not match. Did you correct some of the spelling errors that were noted previously and make sure the paths were corrected in the Setup Wizard?

I didn't do that yet but I can try tomorrow. The spelling error didn't affect the video snaps for the other emulators so I didn't think to fix it.

I had this same issue too.

In the end I solved the issue by installing the Shark007 Codecs http://shark007.net/.

Hope that solves the issue for you.

Given that this could be the potential problem, you may want to take one of the NES games videos that you KNOW is working and temporarily replace it with one of your gameboy videos (renaming it to match the NES rom of course). If the video does not play when you highlight the NES game then you know for that video, it is either a problem with that video or a video codex.

At worse, it would confirm that gamex CAN play a particular Gameboy video and you now have a specific example you can continue testing with.

An excellent suggestion <wait for it... wait for it...> BUT... before going through this, make sure that the paths are properly named and corrected via Setup Wizard for each of the affected systems as has been previously noted!

SUCCESS! The Shark007 codecs that nullPointer suggested (the ones on the PinballX homepage) did the trick. Both the Gameboy and Gameboy Color video snaps now play without a problem.

Thank you thank you thank to everyone who contributed to this thread. This is a great community! [emoji1]
