So... Is it possible to create custom playlists of games to group together under specific themes, even when those games are run by different emulators?

Eg. A list called 'ROIDS' might have Asteroids run in AAE and Blasteroids run in Mame, but both appear and are selectable on the same list from the first page of gameex.

Hopefully that makes sense!

Thanks

Yes, but not easily. I can explain emulator grouping if you wish, but it'd be quite a laborious process and you won't want to do it. ;)

Does it involve physical pain? :D

I'm setting up a machine for kids to use so want to make it as simple as possible for them to navigate. If you get a minute, could you outline what I should do to group emulators?

Thanks mate

On a high level, what you will have to do is this via Setup Wizard:

- First, you will setup your primary emulators in the the emulator slots provided. Use this guide by Tempest to get you started.

- Next, you will have to create additional emulator slots for each custom setup (i.e., Donkey Kong Games) that have the paths setup for the specific ROMS (you will need to copy them to a separate folder from your mainstream ROMS, however, you can point the paths to the graphics paths of your main emulator setups and it will display the snaps, videos, etc. as they will have the same filename as the ROMS). Be sure to make note of the emulator numbers you will be using for the custom emulator slots as they will be needed in the next step!

- Last, you will refer to the Wiki section for Emulator Groups and setup as noted in the guide.

That is about it. It can be a pain in the ass to setup as Adultery noted, but not so daunting once you get a few under your belt. Another option to consider is using Headkaze's GameEx Login feature:

"This program allows you to have multiple users in GameEx each with their own game lists and favourites. You can have up to 10 users including a "Default" login, select a custom username and avatar and password protect certain users. This should be good for people who have children and want to have a gamelist that does not have adult games, but also another password protected login with them included."

You can combine the two approaches depending on how deep you wish to go down the rabbit hole of customization.

Thanks for the reply Draco.

This is for a cocktail cab so although Headkaze's login thing looks great, without a keyboard for input I won't be able to use it.

The other option looks a bit daunting but it might be just what I'm looking for.

Thanks again mate
