I'm using the Default - Galaxian V1 theme.

Is it possible to see the name of the rom? Actually, I can see the name of game but I would like to be able see the name of the selected rom.

Thanks in advance.

Sorry, for the integrated mame.

Unfortunately you can't at present. Most of us use third party software such as RomCenter to obtain this kind of information (it will create a list from your MAME, containing lots of valuable info, including rom names).

Alternatively, if you are familiar with databases you can open the MAME DB directly. I would only recommend this to experienced users though. It's in the DATA folder if you feel you fall into that category.

Again, as DazzleHP suggested, you could perhaps modify the MAME database contents to your liking, but if you error, it could cause undesired results. Since this is not a feature of the integrated MAME support, you could, alternatively, setup MAME as a separate emulator and possibly get what you are looking for, while sacrificing some of the benefits of integration.

If you would like to make a suggestion to the programming team, you can submit a feature request in the Features & Enhancements Requests thread to modify the integrated MAME support to allow for selecting this as an option.

Thanks for your answer. I thought that It was a functionality of the layout.

There aren't many reasons that you would need the rom name in GameEx. That doesn't mean it won't be a future feature.

Is there a context in which you need this info? May be we can help you out?

If you see the previous snapshot you'll see many versions of the game Super Street Fighter. How can I know to what rom am I going to play when I select the game?

I usually upload inp to MARP. In MARP it's mandatory indicate the name of rom to upload my game played.

In the most of frontends, I think it's possible to see the name of rom you want to play.

Thanks.

You may not have much choice other than to configure an emulator slot for MAME (setting it to the same paths as for the integrated MAME) for use for MARP. Most other frontends do not offer the integrated MAME functions as GameEx does.

Forgive my ignorance, but what are those benefits of the integrated mame?

Thanks in advance.

You could do your own comparative analysis by setting up MAME using both the integrated functionality and as a standard emulator. Here are some of the highlights though:

  • Bypass disclaimers and warnings without the need for custom compiling and/or an additional external script
  • Support for the use of a default MAME bezel
  • Integrated support for MAMEInfo.dat
  • Integrated support for History.dat
  • Integrated support for HiToText (although that project has itself fallen a bit behind)
  • Integrated support for Auto Rotate
  • Integrated support for filtering your game list by several different criteria: (Only Vert, Only Horz., Only Cocktail, No Adult, No Casino, No MahJong, No Clones, etc.)
  • Integrated support for Catver.ini, NPlayers.ini which automatically created categorized lists for MultiPlayer, Four Player, Vector, Neo-Geo, Atari, CPS, Golden Era, Light Gun, Trackball, etc.
  • Integrated support for CPWizard
  • Support for Online ratings and Favorites lists
  • Integrated support for Mirrored Cocktail cabs

And that's just off the top of my head. Sure there are other frontends which may support a few (but not all) of these things, but it's my belief that GameEx is absolutely the easiest to configure in this regard. It's easy enough for a first time user of MAME and yet robust enough to support many advanced features for power users.

I feel like this conversation is starting to wander off topic towards pedanticism. It's definitely a worthy conversation to have, but we're starting to drift far a field of the stated thread topic. Long story short, displaying ROM names as part of the game info is a feature request which may or may not be supported in GameEx Evolution (your guess is as good as mine, but it's sure fun to consider the possibilities! :D ).
