Hi all,

Okay then, I have Steam integration partially working. The games are loading and exiting cleanly via GameEx, so no issues there.

My problem is that I cannot get any artwork or videos to display when I browse my list of Steam games. As far as I'm aware, GameEx automatically downloads media for Steam games? There are snaps and videos in the following folders, so I guess it must (I didn't download them!):

C:\GameEx\MEDIA\STEAM\BOX

C:\GameEx\MEDIA\STEAM\SNAP

C:\GameEx\MEDIA\STEAM\VIDEO

The files in these folders have the filenames consisting of the AppID for each respective game. The images are .jpg and the videos .flv

Soooo, these files have been downloaded (which is great btw) but why aren't they displaying in my Steam list???

Any help, much appreciated... :)

Thanks.

Hi the_greeze

I'm thinking the following snippet from your log provides a pretty good indication of what's happening:

15:44:50.9 09/07/2015: Open: Failed Opening Video: c:\gameex\media\steam\video\202070.flv
15:44:51.6 09/07/2015: Open: Failed Opening Video: c:\gameex\media\steam\video\310790.flv
15:45:02.6 09/07/2015: Open: Failed Opening Video: c:\gameex\media\steam\video\236450.flv

Do these videos play in windows when you double click them? If they don't play natively in Windows, they won't work in GameEx either. GameEx relies on your local codecs for video playback. The recommended advice here for Windows 7 is to install the Shark Codec pack found here. As always. you want to be careful as you're running this installer as I believe there is a bit of optional adware in there at this point.

Alternately, you could run a video converter on those files to convert them into a native format (keep the file names the same and replace the flv ones). In fact I believe the Convert-It suite should be able to easily handle this aspect (although I'm away from my machine so I can't verify).

Finally, if you're simply interested in seeing whether anything will display, you could try removing the problematic video files altogether in which case GameEx should drop back to displaying the static images.

Hi NP,

First, thanks again for the help!

No, the .flv files don't open natively. When I double-click them, Windows Movie Maker opens but it can't read them. I was also wondering if the file format may be an issue.

As a Lifetime Member of GameEx, do I also get access to the full Convert-It suite too?

Unless Tom is feeling generous, probably not as this was announced likely after you purchased your membership. But, the Convert-It Suite has a fully functional trial, and the cost for lifetime of the product isn't too shabby!

No worries. I have no issue supporting Tom and Spesoft. It'll be handy to have. :)

I'll download it when I get home from work and convert those .flv files and report back.

Thanks!

Good deal. I think that .MP4 format is the best overall. My only concern is that the video from Steam should work if you have the codecs installed. Did you try opening one of the video by right-click and selecting "open with" and then selecting Adobe Flash?

I didn't, but I can try it this evening.

Once again, another minor issue sorted! Thanks for your help Draco and NP

I converted the .flv's to mp4's and all is well. I bought a lifetime version of Convert-It too. :)
