Need a little help setting up individual Steam games

I am setting up my new HTPC with GameEx and am having a bit of a challenge getting my steam games set up the way I would like.

I am aware that there is a integrated option for Steam in Game Ex, but I would prefer to have my steam games grouped in with non-steam games in a single list. Therefore, I had planned to set up each game individually and then use the option for custom menus.

I was able to set up a steam game using the Web Application option and the steam 'URL', but the result was not fantastic. The browser window would open and be displayed for a few seconds and then the game would run. However, once in a while when the game was closed, it would revert back to the empty browser window instead of GameEx.

Can someone tell me what cleanest way to set up an individual Steam game is?

Back in the old days before the fancy schmancy integrated Steam support a lot of us followed the general steps outlined in this guide to integrate Steam into GameEx. The nice thing about doing it this way is that you can create a single Steam list (which can then be merged into other lists using the Emulator Groups feature - and custom menus if you desire), rather than integrating a single game at a time (and subsequently chewing through all your emulator slots faster than necessary.) My recommendation would be to simply go with the integrated support since it's easy and painless, but naturally that solution may not suit everyone. Horses for courses.

I am curious, what games from Steam integrate well into a cabinet? I have a lot of Steam games but haven't spent the time yet to get it working with Gameex. Was assuming that getting PC games to work well in a cab would not be an easy feat.

The answer to that question, more than anything, would likely depend on the control setup of the cabinet itself. While not specifically relegated to Steam, this thread over on the BYOAC forums would likely be a good place to start (or at least to get the mental gears turning). Having said that, I would imagine that Pac-Man Championship Edition DX+ would be at home on just about any cab.

Thanks for the info null. I only have a handful of Steam games to add, so I will probably give the guide a go.

Most of the games I want to set up are modern renditions of retro games like Hammerwatch, Bro Force, the new Gauntlet, Magicka, etc...There are not a ton of gamepad/joystick-friendly games on Steam as of yet, but with the release of SteamOS and the presense of Big Picture mode, maybe we will see more.

I have a tankstick and a spinner installed on it. So 8 buttons, trackball an spinner.

I know a few have cab setups with a CP or Tankstick that also use an XBox 360 wireless controller, Xpadder and Adultery's Xpadder Plugin with great success for those games that are not so "CP friendly" but don't have the space or cash to run two separate systems.

I didn't look over the entire topic but you said the reason you wanted to set them individually is because you wanted the steam games grouped with the non steamed games. You can do this using the built in steam support and then using an "Emulator Group". The emulator number for steam is 1002.

Hi Tom. Thanks for the suggestion. I have not fiddled with Emulator groups yet, but I will give it a look.
