[ATTN TOM] Unable to Auto Update GameEx and games missing from list

Hi all,

I have recently come back after a long time away and a lot has changed since I first tried GameEx many years ago. I am running into a few issues. Firstly, I cant seem to auto update. It downloads the latest version then I briefly see a GameEx install window that I think says 'rolling back drivers' then it quits back to the desktop.

Secondly, when I have added MAME and the game scan finishes I have no games listed under the Neo Geo tab? I have a fully CMPro verified 154 set.

Thanks for the help

J.

Correct. It will install the same as the auto-update and only update those files that are needed to bring you to the current version. Let us know if this is successful. Thanks!

That seemed to of worked. I can now load GameEx without getting the update prompt so I guess I am on the latest version. I will have to see if auto update is fixed next time a new revision is released.

Do you know why my Neo Geo games aren't scanning correctly?

Thanks.

Another update has been released so I have just tried the auto update option again and it still isn't working. I suspect there was something wrong with either my initial install or my reg file. I think this because there are a few other issues as well like games missing from lists and a black screen for around 30 seconds when quitting GameEx.

Can you recommend a way of removing everything from the PC relating to GameEx (Uninstall) as well as removing all registry entries so I can start again. This isn't an issue as I have only just started putting things together anyway.

I had run into a similar issue with the install via Update. I want to escalate this to Tom's attention first before initiating any other workarounds if you don't mind.

Not sure why auto update is not working. I don't see any issues here. Its a case of a file being open and a reboot should fix it?

As for Neo-Geo this has come up many times. GameEx runs mame.exe to verify ROMs by default and some MAME builds report Neo-Geo games as bad. You can turn off the verify feature under advanced MAME settings.

Hi Tom,

Thanks for the advise. I have tried a reboot and that hasn't sorted it. My GameEx install is stored on an external drive that is never disconnected, would that make a difference? Do I need to point the update at my drive letter?

Also I have verify switched off already in advanced MAME settings and it still doesn't show the games? I have just tried again and although the scan was quicker, Neo Geo games still aren't displayed.

I have also noticed that when I try and change the PC settings in tweaks it always defaults back to Pentium IIII settings? I wasn't sure if this was related to the other issues.

Do you know what may be causing this? I have posted my GameEx.ini just in case it is required.

Just a FYI - the PC Settings bug is a known issue, it does save your settings but it doesn't show it in the Setup Wizard. Everyone's install shows Pentium III no matter what is set :)

For Neo-Geo: Is your ROM set verified? Like with clrmamepro? There was a change to the Neo-Geo BIOS a couple builds ago.

For the performance option: This is a known issue. The setting is applied, just not properly shown in the settings.

Edit: Dang, ninja'd by Dazzle. Lol!

For the auto update issue: It's working fine for me, so I can't reproduce that here.

I'm not too worried about the update issue as I am just using GameEx on a temporary PC for now. It should hopefully fix itself when I install it again on its permanent home.

As for my ROMset it is CMPro verified. I have been using PD for those for years. If I uninstalled GameEx is there a file or folder that I could back up so that I wouldn't lose my settings? If so then I may try a fresh install again. Also if I were to do this is there a program you could recommend to remove the registry entries so I could start from scratch or is this not required?

I am using a compiled build of MAMEUIFX with directinput etc. added. Would this maybe affect the ROM scanning? Could I maybe use vanilla MAME to complete the scan then swap it out for the compiled version? or would this cause further problems?

That would be a good idea. As for uninstalling and starting over I don't see how that would improve anything to fix this issue. The issue is that your version of MAME is not veryfing the Neo-Geo games as verified and working. This is down to the version of MAME, MAME in general or ROMs.
