I'm guessing I had an old install of GameEx on this computer because when I installed it to this machine none of my conig changes were taking. Things like steam were working even though I have it disabled and don't have my login/password typed in while MAME does not show up even though I have it enabled. Uninstalling and re-installing didn't help. Is there any way to make sure any old files are not lingering around?

You could do a search for gameex.ini on your pc and see if there are more than one...

I everything that came up when I searched for gameex.ini and now my emulators are showing up. The only problem is Steam isn't going away even though I have the option turned off.

I can help you with Steam but just curious why you want to turn it off?

Open gameex.ini with a text editor and find the [steam] section and add enabled=false on a line.

Its plug and play normally and your only turning off the login portion.
