Hi, This is the third time I'm installing GameEx on a machine. This time it's on a new PC running windows 8.1. I've installed the emulators and ROMs. I tested the NES emulator. It works fine when loaded outside of gameex and can run games. But when I try to load an emulator from GameEx, it's not working. When I select a game, the screen goes black, and nothing happens. If I move the mouse, I hear GameEx sounds as if I was moving around on the GameEx screen selecting different options. Please help! Below is the log file and my .ini is attached.

Thanks!

Dan

If that's all your log has, there's no showing of launching any emulator here... :(

Can you try running the emulator again and providing an updated and complete log file? Also, didn't see a copy of your gameex.ini file. You may also want to provide copies of your emulator config files as well. Click here for additional information on how to find these files and others that may be required

I've attached my config and log.

2 additional points to mention...

1) The log file (and I think all other files in the GameEx directory) were marked as "read only." So the log file wasn't updating. I made all files (I think) editable, and now the log file is updated.

2) GameEx takes about 1 minute to exit, once I select that option.

In the log file...The last instance of GameEx is where I tried to run a game. The screen just turned black and nothing happened. When I move the mouse around I hear the GameEx sounds when making different menu selections, so it sounds as if I never left GameEx. I hit escape and everything quit. Looking at the log, I don't see that it registered my selection of a game. But when I go back, the game I selected shows as last played.

Please let me know your thoughts! Thanks!!!

The log file is a little confusing. It starts with...

11:13:32.2 29/08/2014: Opening Configuration File11:13:32.2 29/08/2014: GameEx: Version 13.28: Starting Log11:13:32.3 29/08/2014: Windows 8.1 Enterprise 64-bit

Then it jumps here to what appears as a log file with a different version of Win 8.1:

15:51:46.2 9/1/2014: Opening Configuration File15:51:46.2 9/1/2014: GameEx: Version 13.28: Starting Log15:51:46.3 9/1/2014: Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit

Also, can you tell us what emulator you are using for NES and provide a copy of that emulator's config file? Click here for instructions on how to obtain the emulator config. Thanks!

This is the part that's slightly concerning to me. It sounds like something went amiss with your installation of GameEx. If everything was set as read-only can we be sure that everything even installed correctly? I think I would attempt to reinstall GameEx over the top of your current installation using a fresh download of the installer. I don't often recommend that, but this is just strange. There was also a recent bug fix release which retained the 13.28 version number, so a fresh download will insure that you have the most recent release (and for that matter we just had another new release today)

I have to agree with Draco as well. That log is just weird. There's two separate start ups of GameEx contained in the same log. It also still doesn't indicate that you ran Nestopia at all during that either of those particular runtimes. If you do reinstall and continue to have this issue would you mind posting a copy of your runitgame.bat after attempting to run Nestopia (in addition to fresh copies of your log and stuff)? Thanks man! Hopefully a reinstall sets this right.

I had done a few reinstalls. I had been putting things into the "c:\Program Files\" directory. This time I used the default c:GameEx. That seems to have worked.

Thanks for your help!!!!!

One thing to remember is that C:\Program Files and C:\Program Files (x86) are protected areas from Vista to the latest versions of Windows. This will cause some files to not update correctly if at all.

Glad to see you got it sorted!
