Hi, I've been having trouble getting all my MAME roms to show up in the list. I've got a full, current, merged, 7zipped romset that checks out in ClrMAMEPro. But in GameEx, I'm missing a bunch of games.

If I set verifyroms to on, along with turning off "show only existing games", I'll get 1,447 roms to show up. It looks like most of them are in the beginning of the alphabet too - the first 1,300 or so are up to the letter D.

The attached files are from a brand new GameEx install. The only thing I configured was MAME. I got similar results on my "normal" GameEx install, but not quite the same. I don't have any hard numbers, but I know in some configuration on my normal install, I would get only about 400 roms stopping in the middle of the letter C (I think Carnevil was the last one).

Anybody have any thoughts on this? Thanks!

Is it because of the CarnEvil bug? Grab a history.dat from the downloads section of the forum and try rebuilding your list.

I updated history.dat, and I'm getting the same results. That's interesting though. And I'm running MAME .153.

Did you use the specific history.dat DazzleHP uploaded or the official one?

I am using DazzleHP's history.dat, and I did Update List.

It looks like if I turn off Verify Roms, I have a lot more success - all the games appear, and at least the handful I tried later in the alphabet all work. So is there a problem using Verify Roms with merged sets?

Not that I'm aware of...

Only thing I can think of is your mame build doesn't match your ROM set. But TBH, I use split sets. That being said, if out was a problem, it may have been brought up by now... Unless no one else is using merged sets around here...

How many show up? Keep in mind that the complete set also contains mechanical games that will probably never be emulated and GameEx filters these out via the integrated MAME setup.

Try these settings (Setup Wizard> Custom> MAME Settings):

Allow Imperfect Games = Yes

Verify ROMS = No

Only Existing Roms = Yes

Use Game Filter = No

No Clones = I want Clones

That should give you all games that are not included in what i call the "craplist". If you want everything, craplist included, change these settings (as well as the above):

No Adult Games = Gimme the Porn

No Mahjong Games = Gimme Mahjong

No Casino Games = Gimme Casino

Remember to boot GE, go to MAME and hit Update List :)

Alright, so I ran my romset through clrmamepro again and verified that I'm missing 303 sets. With that in mind, using DazzleHP's settings above (plus no porn, no mahjong, and no casino), after updating the list GameEx showed me 3205 games.

I then turned on verify roms to see what would happen, updated the list, and I got 2201 games. But similar to before, most of them are in the beginning of the alphabet. Through the end of the letter G accounts for 2064 of those.

So at this point, I'm satisfied to run with verify roms off, but I still don't understand the discrepancy in the total number of games, especially with most of the missing ones being after the letter G for some reason?

Hmm that is strange. I have 3,800 with the filter ON, so you should have far more than that if you turned it off. Maybe the merged set is causing problems after all. I've always used the split set so don't really know how to tackle this.

I did forget a setting that may help you somewhat:

MAME Settings (right near the bottom):

Remove Duplicates = No

Anyone else out there using the merged set?

I changed Remove Duplicates to "No" (it was "Auto") and it gave me three more roms (up to 3208).

I did locate a thread where Tom says that merged sets don't work with Only Existing Roms option - so I turned that off, and now I'm up to about 7500 total. Tomorrow I'll check to see what happens if I turn verify roms back on now.
