Hey all.

So I launched Steam today and it updated. I went to the list and I'm missing a bunch of games... Most notable are PinballFX, Pinball Arcade, Duck Tales Remastered, and Sega All-Stars Racing Transformed. I know they're installed but they aren't coming up in my list, I can play them from the STEAM client.

Here's my steamdata.ini:

GameEx Support File Data

..and here's my GameEx log.

GameEx Support File Data

It should be noted that I have two Steam libraries, one is C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\ and the other is S:\Steam\steamapps\ and both are configured through Steam (I use a mapped network drive so I can share between my PC and my laptop). If I had to take a stab at it, I would say GameEx isn't looking in the second library location even though it should be.. I even went head and changed the config.vdf file to reflect the changes. It may also be relevant that I uninstalled some games so I could move them over to the network drive yesterday... Although Puzzle Quest 1 and 2 were among those and it seems to pick those up just fine. I also deleted all GameEx related STEAM files. So where is GameEx getting this install path data from???

/Side note: If I remove a game from the Steam list it is back after I restart GameEx, as if it's not saving the filter list on exit.

Anything else you need?

This has happened to a few people recently that have more than one install path for Steam. The only effective method that seems to work is to re-install the missing games to the path that GameEx is picking up. It's not ideal i know but it works.

Yeah I don't wanna do that... I have a SSD coming for the OS on the cabinet and I'm not gonna waste it on Steam games.

I'll try and completely uninstall Steam and reinstall it. I was really hoping that Tom could at least point me at the file he pulls the game data from, maybe I can manually fix the paths.

Or I'll just not use GameEx to play Steam, which would be a huge bummer.

I have Steam games installed on two separate hard drive partitions and the Steam app on the SSD and no problems thus far.

I've wondered if this works, and i've asked members to try it but as yet no one has - try deleting a small important file from the game directory of one of the titles that are not showing in GameEx, boot Steam then right-click said game in your steam library and "Verify Game Cache". It will redownload the file you deleted and may alter the files that GE uses. If it works it'll be a shortcut instead of delting the games entirely and re-installing. The only reason i think it may work is because not all members that report problems have more than one drive, but a re-install of offending games seems to sort it. There is a method to my mad way of thinking honest :P

@Drac: I think the issue is deleting the local data and reinstalling them in the new library location. Both my Puzzle Quest games are on the other drive and they work fine after having been moved/reinstalled, but I didn't have them installed on C: first when I launched Gameex last.

@Dazzle: Nah, I thought of that already. I feel like GameEx could just parse the json in config.vdp and get all the info it needs from AppID to install path, but it didn't do that apparently because I changed the paths there as well.

Maybe, but didn't Tom use that file originally? And it caused problems when Valve updated the client? Who knows what kind of genius he came up with to fix the last major bug, but he did, and that's why i don't think it is as simple as reading one file anymore. Who knows shrug_zps6a2e17e1.gif

Now I'm getting frustrated. I uninstalled and reinstalled Steam and some games, and now GameEx can't find ANY Steam games...

EDIT: Nevermind, I got it.

1) Uninstall all your games.

2) Uninstall Steam.

3) Clean your registry keys out for Steam.

4) Make sure you don't have any Steam folders left on your computer.

5) Reboot your PC.

6) Run GameEx. Notice the absence of Steam.

7) Close GameEx.

8) Install Steam again.

9) Set up your library folder.

10) Re-download your games.

11) Run GameEx.

It sounds complicated and you may or may not be able to skip a few steps (running GameEx maybe, IDK...), but this is what I had to do to make it work again. You also may be able to get around an uninstall and re-download of your games library by hooking up the library folder and doing a verify local data on each game, but it was too late for me to try this.

I think you would need to delete all your Steam data files in the GameEx Data directory if you don't run GameEx between the uninstall of Steam and the re-install, IDK. This is just what worked for me.

I had to move mine to a larger drive partion and I found the following links useful:

Moving your Steam Installation and Games -

Verfiy Game Cache Files

After moving roughly half of my library (I had already started loading some on the new partition prior), I was able to successfully see and play the games that were moved via GameEx. Fortunately, I didn't have to uninstall and reinstall Steam proper and everything seems to work fine so far.

I tried that though. Did you move Steam itself, or just add another library and move only the games?

I don't know why GameEx couldn't see the installed games had moved but could see the games were installed, and it was still looking in the old place even though Steam had no problem verifying the data...

I think the trick in my situation was uninstalling Steam, removing all associated registry keys, and reinstalling it.

Added a new library and moved the games. One thing I had to do which I omitted prior was install the games that were moved which will only add any missing files and overwrite the shortcuts to direct them to the new file path within Steam.

Maybe I just have shitty luck. ;)

IDK, you are worlds away more techy than I am with this stuff. Anyway, glad you were able to work around the issue regardless.
