Hello,

I've installed GameEx on the hardrive of my system. My emulators and my roms are located on an external usb3 drive. The problem is that when I am playing to a game and my usb drive switch to standby mode after minutes, if I quit the game, GameEx crash and an error window is open (log.txt as an attachment). The problem does not occur if the drive is running when I quit the game.

Do you have a solution?

Regards,

One solution would be to turn off the standby mode. some manufacturers have a option to do this. if you have not this option, then you could try to mount the drive as a internal drive (unfortunatily you would need to put the drive out of the enclosure and connect it like a internal drive to your pc), then you can turn off the standby-mode.

I think you have identified the problem thus far:

You may need to dig into your Windows settings to make this change. This post may be of help.

Hello,

Yes of course there is the solution of preventing the hard drive to stop, this is what I attempts to apply ... But, as it leads to a crash of GameEx, I think it is necessary to fix on that side anyway.

Either way, thanks for the link Draco1962! Yesterday I tried another way to do that without success!

Regards.

I don't think that there is anything that can be done from a GameEx perspective. If the drive is shutting down and causing GameEx to crash, the you will need to consult the manufaturer's site to see if there is a firmware update or some other management interface for it that will enable you to keep the drive running.

Just in case, I will detail a little bit what happen:
- I launch GameEx from my internal drive
- I start to play to a game located on an external drive
- After some time, the external harddrive stops
- I hit escape's key to quit the game
- Screen goes black, external harddrive is trigger and starts
- After few seconds, GameEx crash without displaying its interface since the escape key.

Tonight, as you say Draco1962, I will look if the problem is not caused by the model of my harddrive or try to find a way to manage it.
Thank you,
Regards.

Spin-down is a power save feature, and it can usually be disabled if you follow Draco's advice.

Some hdd's don't allow you to disable that unfortunately... I only buy ones for my server that I'm positive I can disable this for. Nothing 'green powered' allows you to disable that afaik.

Have you thought of putting GameEx on the external drive also. I have ran it this way now for almost 2 years. When I hook the external to a different computer, I just create a short cut on the new computer. I have about 200 systems on the external along with the assets and the roms. On the larger systems I just have the top 10 or so top games I like to play to save space. The only problem I have ever had was that, sometimes when Gameex updates, I have to do a manual update.
